The AMD ecosystem hasn't had a healthy supply chain in years. I would surmise that even the liquidation vendors don't want any part of AMD-based laptops at this point...
If you saw the Celeron U or the Pentium U... FAR BETTER machines.... only sightly expensive against the trash, I meah, the Celeron N 2840 and now the Atom X5 or the Celeron N3000

In this instance, what establishes you as an AMD partisan is the fact that you're desperately holding out a gaming-capable AMD-based notebook, while at the same time eschewing the hundreds of Intel-based models that already meet (and exceed) all the other the criteria.
Yeah because battery life while gaming totally doesn't matter and Intel + Nvidia is a viable combo, right?

At 50W continuous it will be drained in 2 hours I much rather have it use 25W at 20% less perf and get 4 hours. Viable alternative as if it exists yet... Maybe with HBM + Zen APU in 2017...

If he has a criterion like graphics performance at a limited price range and if Intel based laptops don't fit in there w/o sacrificing sth. else, what would you recommend then?
Well the 840M based notebooks start as low as 480 euros so money isn't the problem. It's just that I want high efficiency and I think going by Stilt's numbers on GTA V getting higher efficiency from Carrizo.

Spending 700 euros on a Carrizo FX-8800p based notebook that isn't that great as it's a piece of ugly plastic with a HDD isn't really what I want to do. As I should in that case either replace everything including the chassis or just get Intel + Nvidia and no longer care about efficiency.

In gaming of course

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9576/...ad-lineup-with-windows-10-skylake-and-carrizo
Next up is the ideapad 500 series, which is quite interesting because there will be versions with both AMD’s Carrizo CPU and versions with Intel’s Skylake processors. The AMD based on has a starting price of $100 less. There will be 14-inch and 15.6-inch models available with up to 1920x1080 resolution. The AMD based one can be had with the FX-8800P APU which is the top tier from AMD, and the AMD Radeon R5 M330. It will be available with up to 8 GB of memory, and both SSD and HDD storage options are available. The Intel version can be had with up to Core i7, and the GPU option is the AMD Radeon R7 M360 which has more stream processors than the R5 M330 available with Carrizo on this laptop.

so god dam close...

For someone like me interested in basic video editing (and h.265 support) do you think Carrizo could be on par with Intel Skylake for less money? I mean I could invest the difference in money for a full HD res or bigger screen.
Unfortunately without benchmarks it's impossible to decide here.

Unless that editing and especially the rendering steps are gpu accelerated that is a cpu based task in general. I think an Intel proc would do better though I would like to note that you should get a real i7 not some wimpy dual core ulv.

I know... this would be just a backup machine on the go and to view my 4k h.265 files that are impossible to play without hw acceleration, the big editing stuff is always done on my desktop.

That guy is an idiot. Of course they won't let you change it; it probably only has a fan rated for 15W.

Question is: will there be some manufacturers that deliver the Carrizo full potential?
Otherwise why would I buy something worse than Kaveri?
Seems like they're all limited to 15W.

We'll have to write a personal email to Lisa T. Su to get AMD's head out of its own arse !:awe:

I feel that Asus and some minor asiatic companies will deliver that.

yeah and perhaps Lenovo anyways 60% of the performance with a 15W(20-25W usage?) configured APU versus 15 + 32W (15-20 + 30 W usage?)
Is actually not bad if only the user could choose the performance setting. Power efficiency isn't everything if the game you want to play doesn't run.

$h!t ! why would any 1 do a 15W ??!

Low power consumption = small buttery = small heat-sink = Slim Chassis = low weight = cheaper BOM = better looking = raise MSRP = consumer spends more = better for them = worse for your pocket and mine

Memory : 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz (not user upgradeable)

Power
•45W (19V 2.47A) 100-240V/50-60Hz AC Adapter
•3cell/45Wh Lithium Ion battery pack (Not user replaceable)

Yea this is a 15W TDP config.

Does the 15W go to 3.4Ghz?
