If this Mobo was used by a previous CPU, clear the BIOS out.

Also, make sure the motherboard has support for that CPU. Its possible you may need to update the BIOS in order to run that model CPU properly.

EDIT: You posted as I did. That mobo does support it, but you need to update the BIOS to v20.

Checked with a technician and received this response:

Tell him to update his bios to version 2.1 (the full version number is 7721v21) from MSI’s website. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/FM2-A85XMA-E35.html#/?div=BIOS
Then reinstall catalyst, because it may not have installed properly due to the incorrect bios. Please install version 13.6 beta 2 from our website here. http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst13-6WINBetaDriver.aspx

Do you happen to have a AMD GPU. When you uninstalled the previous drivers did you use Driver Fusion

Do not use beta drivers when you don't understand the basics. It's that simple.

You are waiting a sufficient length of time after the monitor goes black, right? It is completely normal for the screen to blank out during driver install, it should come back on within a minute or so.

One thing to try, if your motherboard has multiple video output, try the other output. If you are using analog VGA, try the DVI, or vice-versa. It may be that the default output changes when you install the driver.

The info about the drivers is good though, I will likely try them for my 7970.

I saw an interview of an AMD guy somewhere and I could swear they said these "test drivers" are supposed to disclose their status as such.

Now we have Durvelle and Vegata disclosing at times, not at others. Must not be a hard and fast rule.
