Did nvidia ever fix the data corruption problems with their nforce4/5 SATA drivers? Did ActiveArmor ever work? Did ATI ever put out drivers that resulted in GPU's over heating
The answer would be No. Point being that claims about one companies driver teams being more/less competent are ridiculous.
I don't think he's necessarily pro-Nvidia. He's enraged at AMD for what he considers are shortcomings in their product. Just because Nvidia screwed up doesn't make it right for AMD to do so.
I've encountered the AHCI issue he's pointed out, but mainly in SB600. SB750 had definite improvements in performance, and in my experience SB710 and SB8x0 seems to have fixed the AHCI hit. TechReport confirms this in their 890fx chipset review.
USB 2.0 performance stunk in SB600 and SB750. The USB in my SB710 board is fine, a match for my Intel PC. So I think there are some issues with AMD stuff that aren't going to be fixed with drivers. The fact that there are usually issues of some sort - some minor, some major - in the majority of hardware doesn't mean we should be OK with that.
