wow, thats pretty impressive. I thougth it was just another one of many things that only the enthusiast community would hear of. Was it in a prominent place or burried under pages of other stuff?

LMAO, that's the exact same phrase i was thinking of while reading this whole thread...if only AMD actually did a commercial, then that would hurt intel a lot.

I love the idea of one company calling the other one out...especially when it's the little guy doing the calling!

Using non-Intel compilers would hurt AMD's performance too....though not as much as Intel's.

Technically, AMD won already, but whether Intel takes up the challenge or not, they probably dont care at all as this is just an aggressive marketing move.

If you ask your average joe who isn't into computer whether Intel or AMD is the better, he wont give you an answer based on AT benchmark but on how much ads and commercials he saw on his prefered product.

Avg Joe still thinks AMD is an Intel knockoff. When I build a system for someone, I have to convince people to put an AMD chip in. Its like pulling teeth sometimes!

The sad truth is, the average Joe isn't that important when it comes to overall sales...
The group that this stunt is aimed at are the IT and decision making guys in business. I agree with the rest that this is a brilliant marketing stunt because this kind of "calling-out" is something most of those guys really understand in their businesses...

also note, Apple and Microsoft are known to do this all the time.
Last one I heard was during the huge Apple Convention in Franxe few months ago, MS decided to drop by across street to a local Luandry and pay the owner to put up a huge banner AD and Logo.
approx few hours later, Apple went over and paid them off to taking it down.

Like what happened with the Xbox360 and the PSP. Sony Opened a PSP store in france, and MSoft paid the laundry people across the street to hang a huge Xbox360 sign there. A few days later Sony paid the people to take it off.

opps I guess it wasnt Apple/Microsft in France, you are right, it was PSP/XBOX.

but I know Apple/MS had one occured with MS insulting apple June or July.


also, Ipod vs PSP:

Some guy dressed entirely in black with the white headsets walks into an apple store and starts dancing for approx 5 min.
The Manager asks the person to leave and says its nice your supporting the Ipod but you must leave.
He stops, looks in bafflement, pulls out the item from his pocket and showed it was the PSP.

PWNED.

also at work, I have a PSP and I listen to my music on it when working at my Deli place.
Everyone always asking me "So what are you listening to in your Ipod?"
i simply give them a stupid look and say "Whats an Ipod?" I bust out my PSP with the background saying "Ipod SUX"
