Really? I think that's a great slogan and they can morph it into WE ARE ZEN. This is legit good stuff.

Nothing wrong with the slogan, it was the video that was terrible.

They couldn't even spend a few to make their CPU savior video a little more engaging?

Card looks sharp, and ready to do battle!

NO DVI my poor QNIX...

Would love to see a back plate too, but it's an inexpensive card sooo.

It's also interesting to see they decided to do the "Fermi" cutout on the back of the cooler. I wonder why they didn't open up the end of the shroud?

They really need to fire the guy that made that "I AM ZEN" video. Woof.

Can you stop threadcrapping?

Anyways I wish we had more performance metrics shown for RX 480, nVidia did much better here with performance and power charts.

2x Polaris beats the GTX 1080 in Ashes at 51% utilization. Not an impressive showing for Crossfire, but what does that suggest about a single card? Although what 51% utilization means, I'm not sure.
It means that the CPU was effectively idle at ~49% of a frame. This is more like a natural DX12 advantage for AMD, because GCN can use the TIER_3 binding, while Pascal only support TIER_2, which will generate much more driver overhead.

480 should be faster or same speed as 1080 under dx12.If cf have 51% Gpu utilization then 1 card will have same performance.

But it just begs the question... why use two at 51% when that is in theory the same as one at 102%? I guess she is trying to hint that a lot of performance is being left on the table at launch. It could be that the 1070 will be 15% faster at launch but end up being 10% slower in a year or so. Given past trends I think that is possible, but it still gives Nvidia all the profits.

It could be that the 1070 will be 30% faster at launch but end up being 10% slower in a year or so. Given past trends I think that is possible, but it still gives Nvidia all the profits.

It almost makes me wonder if they set some sort of power limit to make crossfire super efficient and then forgot to add the information to the slide or have raja mention it...

One thing I noticed was the distinct lack of paid shills in the crowd due to the fact that this was hosted in a neutral setting. Remember all the tacky phrases and cheering coming from the front row at the nVidia event? Made all the more obvious they literally paid people to sound excited at their event.

Maybe that's what it takes to get that coveted brand image nectar.

You mean, like a lady yelling "WHAT?! WHAT!?" every few mins?

Yeah, shame they didn't hire her as well...

The crowd looked like they just woke up, very low key.

Something was clearly missing because it was definitely not something to brag about. Now a single RX 480 hanging with a GTX 1080, that is something to shine a flash light on.

Sorry sir, I'll refrain from sharing my criticism of their live stream.

I think most people welcome honest criticism, but when you have over 6 posts of purely negative remarks one starts to wonder if you have some kind of agenda.

I don't own stock, can you say the same? Then we can talk about agendas.

Because of how blowers work. You can pull air in from the ends along the axis of the fan. But you only want to dump air out one side. If you open up the back, you end up with half the air flow going to the heat sink.

I'm still trying to work out what's at the top of the $100-300 range.

Sure an 8Gb 480 will be a premium over $199, but not ~$50 more... And I can imagine a gddr5x variant, but would it really be $299?

That slide says GPU usage, not CPU. Really makes no sense as it stands and you have multiple people in this thread saying it didn't even look like they were comparing the same thing. Presumably they got the actual benchmark right and just showed the wrong thing but who knows. Even measuring GPU % utilization is nontrivial though...

Looks slick.

Guess they took a page out of nVIDIA with that extended cooler while using a small PCB.

I am an avid investor, and in the past few months, AMD has been a very smart money play. I bought in purely for expected returns, not some brand loyalty.

However the fact that I own stock doesn't excuse you from consistently spewing out negative remarks for no good reason.

If it was at 51% utilization, shouldn't they just have shown off a single Polaris numbers instead??

Why would anyone expect a $200 AMD card to be anywhere near a $700 Nvidia one? Seeing miracles don't happen that would mean Nvidia has a total failure on their hands. Which they don't.

I own stock, what is said in this thread or any other makes zero difference to the share price.

So you own stock and have no reason to come at me for being negative? Sure . Shall I count the other people with criticism you aren't telling to stop threadcrapping?

If you don't like my posts, ignore me. I'm not breaking rules and I discuss the topics. If you want to see me go lolly for AMD, rewind a year or older when I defended them indefinitely. I'm a bitter ex-support, sorry it shows.

I want to congratulate to ID software for using AMD specific SPIR-V extensions for the very first time on PC. I know how bad you guys want console style programing to bring all those crazy console optimizations to the PC. Now you can show it!
