I have my Phenom II X2 560 clocked to 3961MHz with 240 bus speed and HT at 2400

AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition Callisto Dual-Core 3.3 GHz Socket AM3 80W HDZ560WFGMBOX Desktop Processor

What will the below cpu with the appropriate mobo gain me ??

AMD FX 8350 Black Edition Vishera 4.0GHz Eight-Core Socket AM3+ Boxed Processor with Wraith Cooler

I think you are more likely to get a useful response if you ask "this is what I want to achieve, will this processor upgrade be sufficient?".

I can't remember if Vishera cores were recommended to be built with DDR3-1866. I'm fairly sure they'll work with slower RAM, though if I'm correct, you ought to factor in whether you're using it with slower RAM for any benchmarks you rely upon to make your judgement.

I'm running a FX 8350 on my main rig.
5 GHz on air, paired with DDR3-2133 and 2 7970 GHz Editions.
This is with some serious air cooling though

Even on 4 GHz it's a nice machine though, depending on what you wanna do of course.
E.g. for gaming the 4 GHz haven't limited performance as far as I can tell. But e.g. when building large software there's a huge difference.

So I'd say: If it's for gaming, and you don't need top scores in benchmarks: go for it (if the price is right of course).

Although waiting for Ryzen and Kaby Lake might be a good idea, because I guess they are gonna influence the market and prices.

What board do you have to put it in? Are you certain that the board, and especially the VRMs, will handle an 8-core FX CPU?

March 2017 will be very interesting in the CPU space, as that will be when both Kaby Lake and Ryzen are available. If you can wait until then you will have a ton of new CPUs and boards to choose from. Should be far better than either of those.

Since you have a Micro Center near, apparently, there is no reason to consider any AMD processor besides the 8320E. Pair it with an Aura board if you need a board and get a decent cooler with it (not the cheap-o EVO). Otherwise, wait for Zen.

It's funny, I've been busy and buying so many Phenom II X2 570 lately, while rejecting all the FX-8320E given to me by Micro Center. I save an additional $100. I also USED a heatsink from one of my FX-8320e boxes I haven't used yet. Some can go up to 4.2GHz max, but average is 3.9GHz.

Intel Sandy Bridge is looking more interesting now. Core i3-2130 (the fastest in i3) successfully depreciates down to $30, I couldn't believe my eyes. Paid the first one for $60 six months ago. Just bought the second one for $30.74. That's Core 2 Duo E8600 price in mid-2014.

Does the Phenom II 570 unlock to a quad or something? Why would anyone buy a Phenom II in this day and age, except to upgrade their existing rig?

So far, I only see less than 20% rate that the 570s can unlock to quad-core. Problem is the manufactured date, AMD realize they're not so generous on freebies as they used to. These were made in December 2013. The older Phenom X2s made in 2010 and 2011 had higher unlock rate, like Phenom 555.

Made in Dec 2013... three years ago. Why even get them, or are they only like $10 or something?

Dec. 2013 is the newest manufactured date you can find and built in final-month. Most Phenoms were made in 2010-2011. $18.99 is the price right now, shipped from China. Athlon X2s are going for less than $10, you can get one now.

For the Phenom 570.
It must be a low TDP CPU then because the 8320E's fan is minuscule.

At least they can use more than 2 GB of RAM unlike Cherry Trail.

TDP is 80W for all Phenom X2s.
The 8320E doesn't come close to its TDP, though, so the Phenom could have more of a fan noise problem with it, depending on how close to 80 watts it runs. It's noisy even as a VRM cooling fan.

Yes, it's true the Phenoms run hotter at higher-peak mode than the FXs. FX-8320e is rated 95W, and the supplied heatsink AMD included in box is good for 95W and under for all AMD processors, in general. Works perfect for Phenom 570 up to 4.0GHz max at stock voltage, dissipates heat evenly without issues. There's an even smaller heatsink rated for 65W and under found in FM2 box, but I don't recommend using it for the Phenoms (runs fast all the time).

You have something slower than a phenom Ii? In any case, we need to know what will be the use case for the PC. For general use, just get a cheap prebuilt i3 or i5 system. No need to wait for Zen or kaby lake unless you want to build a top end system. Kaby lake will bring only small improvements over the intel processors currently available, and Zen will only be available initially as an 8 core chip that will require a separate gpu, making it suitable for top end systems.

I'm waiting for Ryzen and Vega, planning on building a VR rig... Have some parts already waiting for the rest

Waiting until March is a good plan. Expect AM3+ prices to go very low, since there is still stock on the open market. Retailers/e-tailers will be eagre to push that stuff out the door.

Or the 8320E bundle.
I know you feel obligated for some reason to reccommed this processor in every thread, but it depends on what the use case is. No matter how cheap it is, I would not buy an 8320 unless I was planning to build a gaming rig with a dedicated dgpu. Even then, I would not buy it, because it is a poor all around gaming processor, but a case can be made for it because it is cheap. Poor single thread performance, high power usage, and no igpu make it a bad choice for a general use PC. In fact, I would buy an FM2 apu for general use before I would buy Vishera.

Edit: OP, the best case would be to ask the mods to move this to general hardware, define your budget and use case, and ask for a recommendation. If you can use the FX with that motherboard, then it is a nice drop in, but if not, a whole new system might be in order.

Dude even if he gets a new mobo (he is expecting to get one), the prices on that stuff are seriously in the toilet already. If you can't get 8320e + 970 mobo for $150 now, you'll be able to get it in a few months. By March that stuff will be priced to move.

Considering what he is coming from, even the lowly 8320e would be a massive improvement, and modern games blah blah blah DX12 Vulkan whatever.
