Amd Dual Core and DC

Hello All,

I was wondering exactly how AMD's dual core options perform on DC applications. I know as a gamer it is in one's best interest to go for the fastest single core AMD cpu currently.

I was looking to get a new pc probably within 6 months and as a more " future-proof " [an oxymoron I know] method I was looking at Dual core processors. The only problem I can forsee is that on most motherboards the processors share the ram; correct?

Also, did anyone see the Dual, Dual Core System [ the Dream machine] in the latest issue of Maximum PC. I believe it was a total of 8.8 GHZ of power

Could you even imagine what that would do on DC app's?[ To note they did say that they ran F@H and it was ' smoking ' ]

Traditional SMP (two sockets, for a total of two cores), on AMD based systems do not share ram -- you'll need seperate ram for each CPU. "Dual Core" (often called CMP in academic literature) is (right now) just like a regular "one socket" solution -- that is, two cores in one socket you only need ram for that one socket. If, however, you have two sockets each with two cores, you'll need ram for each of the two sockets.

Otherwise, I don't know how the AMD chips compare right now for DC apps (there are so many new ones that I haven't kept up with in the last few years).

Bump in case someone wants to inform more about which proc's are better (with respect to itself and others) at what DC apps....
