I plan on buying a duron or t-bird system. whichever is cheapest when i get my money. I also am probably gonna upgrade my celeron to a cb0 stepping p3. if i were you, and you had to choose between a celeron and a duron, i would go with the duron. i've heard a lot of good things about the duron. hope i could help you with you decision.

duron.... unless you have a nice BX board and a video card that hangs @89mhz AGP....


if duron does indeed oc like tom says.... and the mobo's do support oc'ing.... i'll be getting a duron sooner then later.....

I think this CPU is going to be the new 300A! If you can get 950 mhz from a 700mhz Duron your are at the top!

The Celeron sucks sh!t compared to the Duron. If you're on a budget then the Duron is probably better than the PIII. If you have the money to spend and want top performance then a PIII/Athlon system would be better for you.

Killer, the Duron has a core similar to the Thunderbird core, so it's going to haul with FPU tasks, and 3D.

It's cracks rc5 just as fast as a similarly clocked Athlon.

I think Duron is the way to go. Celerons are limited by their FSB and doesn't have a strong FPU as the new AMD procs do.

The Duron is definately the price to performance champion of everything out today. If it overclocks as well as Tom says, the Duron is my next upgrade (if they make a slocket so I can use it on my abit Ka7). It performs almost as well as an Athlon at the same speed. It kicks the Cel 2's ass. It only beats a PIII in FPU tests.

True, Duron does kick the C2's ass. But there's not too many motherboards out there that support it right now. Also, socket-A is a new platform that will need to mature a bit more before it reaches true stability. I'd wait before investing in a whole new mobo + CPU + memory AMD Duron setup simply because if you're gonna spend the money, you might as well have stability.

Problem with the Duron is there's HOW many motherboards avaiable with Socket A? One? Two? At what price? Are they RELIABLE with AGP, etc? And soforth...
Until someone can tell me more about the motherboards, I'm skeptic of leaving the BX board.

According to the forums I've been reading, the board support is not going to be anemic like it was for the original Athlon. EVERY major board manufacturer is coming out w/ one, and the OEM market is going to bust open w/ them. Their may not be many now, but from the testing so far, and the boards to come, I think we have a winner here!

yeah it really appears that the KX133/KT133 is turning out to be a REALLY popular chipset. Via needed a break, and gambled correctly with the Athlon chipset.

To add to that, support for the chipset has gone through the roof (look how many updates you've gotten recently for the 4in1 drivers and BIOS updates. Bill on this forum is testing a new BIOS that gets WAAY better memor scores then it did before). It's only weakness now AKAIK is the AGP port, with not quite as much performance as it's competitors, though you'll rarely see the difference visually.

and NO the KT133 will not need bugs to iron out, becuase all it is, is a KX133 with Socket A support.
