The only laptop that is commercially available with this thing is the Acer Aspire V5 in any case. And you can only get it in the States. Disappointing showing by both AMD and its partners if you ask me.

Claims 3W on average.

Dual core at 1GHz, gpu at 225MHz.

The entire range now goes from 6w to 25w.

I doubt we will see any tablets sold in meaningfull numbers with this but perhaps there is still a market for ultralight and small laptops/nettops witout fans? 11.6?

My C60 netbook is pretty nice, and Jaguar has a very healthy IPC improvement- 1Ghz dual core in a tablet sounds pretty decent to me.

At that clockspeed the only thing you are looking at is x86 compatability.

Now take that score, divide it by two (dual core) and reduce it by 1/3 (1 ghz vs 1.5 ghz).

GPU will still be pretty good.

the v5-122p uses the amd a4-1250/a6-1450,they dont use g-series skus[although they are pretty much the same] also this sku in question is closer to the 3.9W a4-1200 tablet sku, although cant figure out why the tdp is higher.

as for performance, amd had posted ~11000 3dmark icestorm, which is more or less snapdragon s4 levels of performance with slightly higher power use.

another interesting bit about this chip is suppport of ddr3 1066 @1.25v.

Oh, definitely. I like my Windows apps and games and want to keep using them. A cheap dockable tablet based around Temash would be great, in my eyes.

EDIT: Same applies to Bay Trail.

the 128 core Si gpu clocked at 225mhz is pretty potent, it is still slower than tegra 4, snapdragon s800 and apple a6x[quad channel memory controller?].

amd reported it a ~55 gflops being fed by <8.5GBps, 64bit ddr3 1066.

the cpu side might be a lost cause, 1ghz dual, will probably compete with older quad a9s and dual kraits.

oh and dockable temash tablet http://www.eeevolution.it/tablet-amd-temash-gigabyte-msi/

I meant AMD Jaguar in general. AMD Jaguar, months after "launch", is still nearly impossible get hold of.

i wouldn't say that is universally true, there are laptops you can buy with the a4-1250, 16-1450, a4-5000 and a6-5200.

the problem is that they aren't any premium/highq build, these are all budget laptops[craptops] the highest profile design win is the samsung series 9 lite and it has so many compromises compared to its ultrabook brethren. but hey, atleast finally the thing has an ssd!

Where? Show me where I can order one right now.

I dont want laptops that have been announced, I want a link to a store page with an Add To Basket button.

As I said, the only laptop that fits that bill is the Acer Aspire V5, which you can only get in the States, which is not where I live.

If wonder if OEMs are trying to liquidate their Bobcat inventory before releasing new Jaguar parts.

HP has a ton of kabini/temash based cheap notebooks.

Hmm. Tegra 4 based tablet/notebook (detachable keyboard).

1200p touchscreen.

$479. (little expensive).

All these low power Kabini and Temash SoCs are really boring. Shield gets nearly 20k points in 3DMark as a 5W device. And AMD expects anybody to buy products which come not even close to this kind of performance?

No baiting.. I just permabanned a troll this am, please don't go down a road like his.

Jaguar seems to me more of a tablet chip than a laptop one. I still want more CPU power than that in a laptop. If I am going to give up that much processing power, I want the portability of a tablet. I saw a nice thin/light laptop in Costco and thought it was a Richland A series, but it was only 1 ghz kabini, and it also was nearly as expensive as a low end ultrabook. I couldn't see paying more than about 400.00 for this level of performance.

One would think then why a 5W device needs to be cooled with a fan?

The shield looks surprisingly nice, except I would not want to game on arm. If temesh/atom or ulv Haswell could power something similar at a decent price it could be very attractive.

It's surprising how badly it (Tegra 4) gets beaten by the Adreno 330 without a fan. Still, there's obviously a reason why Nvidia had to go build their own hardware while Qualcomm got the vast majority of design wins.

This is kind of a weird comment in reference to an AMD CPU but, those back of the envelope calculations show that while the total throughput will be lower, single-thread performance will be around 12% higher.

As long as battery life is still good, better single-thread performance plus x86 compatibility seems like a win to me. That being said, I still would think very long and hard about getting a Jaguar-based tablet because it does not support connected standby. I read somewhere that Jaguar's successor should have it, so I'd expect AMD to really come into its own in the tablet market then.

My personal plan is to get something like this and whatever the best Baytrail dockable tablet is with wacom digitizer.

I'm still holding out for AMD to put out an HSA-capable x86/ARM APU SoC. Imagine running Windows and Android side-by-side. Total app compatibility. We can dream...

Samsung did that with the Ativ Q, all on x86.

I'm waiting for it to start selling. When it does, and if hands on experience is good, I'll get one for me.

Please don't let him derail this thread into his usual NVidia fanboy nonsense.
