hmmm. Conroe destroys Athlon 64s....
I think you're right... a watermelon *IS* bigger than a cherry tomato....
oh, and a fire-engine *is* slower than a Porshe 911...
and how about "a 32 bit processor" destroys "a 64 bit processor"

Tell you what - you show me the 64 bit benchmark, which shows that Conroe can even *finish*, and i'll agree with you.
Until then, please dont try to mix my apples with my oranges...YOU, of course, can take your fruit any way you like them.

Are you implying conroe is not really 64-bit machine?

FWIW, I don't condone this form of fanboy behavior by the OP, and I agree there haven't been too many 64bit benchmarks except the UT2004 test in tech-report.com There was also some japanese site that had 64bit benchmarks but I don't have the link for it.

planetx64 did test Conroe in Windows XP64 though, so at least they used a 64bit OS, even if it's a sorta patched up one, if you know what I mean.

What a childish thread, the OP is asking for a flame war and a potential vacation.

I wouldn't care if Via or for that matter Maytag made a better cpu. What difference does it make who the manufacturer is? The last couple of years A64 and now Conroe has made desktop computing a very exciting hobby with incredible performance for the price.

Thank god Intel and AMD or going head to head in technology, we all benefit from the competition with both pricing and advancements.

Well, I'm now at least *partially* enlightened... In all honesty, I didn't think it was 64 bit... but a quick bit of research suggests that it is 64-bit compatible. Curiously, 15 minutes of browsing the Intel site failed to uncover this fact... Still smells fishy - I'll be looking forward to 64-bit and data-server-based benchmarks.
...in the meantime, I'll be eating my previous words.

What part of the Core Micro-architecture do you not understand? Oh and 64bit Core2 "data-server-based benchmarks":

So what if the Conroe 'pwns'? It's a win-win situation for consumers. AMD's great offerings in the last few years have forced Intel to be on their toes.

Plus, how can anyone be a 'processor fanboy'? It's not like they were soccer teams! I personally like to root for the underdogs and thus sympathize with AMD, but my next rig will probably be Conroe-powered. I'll buy what offers the best performance at the best cost, regardless of manufacturer.

If anything, this will make AMD's next release doubly competitive.

Ok..whatever. Now go take a nap kiddie.....

I'm glad there is NOW competition. I'll just go out and get a good deal on an X2 when the prices start coming down.

So CPU forums are the new Video forums? Well I guess this happens when a new CPU is out, but thank goodness the performance isn't marginal. IF it's marginal, you have ATI and NV wars that rage on forever. At least hte wars here spark only on releases. Hopefully soon enough all AMD fanboys are converted, but once K8L comes out we might have yet another reversal + war.

That said, gimme some kleenex please. I don't liek my Opteron =(

LOL. If ATI and AMD do actually merge, I wonder how many Nvidia + AMD fanboy's heads'll explode?

Look how much money you would have had put up if you didnt buy all the new parts every time they come out. Probably enough to help put ure kids through college for some of you. Sure if you are rich do it cause you might as well you don't have anything else to look forward to.

For thoes that do it and probably can't keep food on the table half the time then I feel sorry for whoever depends on you.

EDIT

Also... All pentium and AMD do is swap places here and there. You actually think theres a steady rate of extra GHZ and GB's being discovered?????

You are foolish... They inch parts up inch by inch and squeese every dollor out of all of you consumers that can't wait for price drops and have to keep the best.

If you were not around AMD and Intel would be selling 200Ghz 40ghzFSB PC's with 400GB Ram Hard drives not needed...

For probably $700

Wow...you speak so confidently for someone that obviously has no idea about what Conroe is about...it is a completely new design from the floor up....you make it sound like Intel just squeezed more Mgz out of an existing processor...you realllly need to do some reading buddy...this chip is as revolutionary as the P4 when it came out, and as the AMD64 came out...

For those of us who have done more than just read headlines about Conroe are snickering at you...

In an earlier post, I exposed my ignorance about the 64-bit compatibility of Conroe - replied after that I'd eat my words... A bit more research, and I've done even better - sold all my stock in AMD, and picked up several hundred of INTC...now if only I'd done it LAST week, before AMD's bottom dropped out....

The ability to admit, without condition, one's own follies is a sign of strong character.

Interesting move you made... I'm a fan of cheap and fast so I hope Conroe doesn't hurt AMD too badly... hopefully their acquisition of ATI will open up exciting new avenues for them.

God forbid we go back to the days of one sided domination, and thusly, insanely high prices.

Why is everyone so precious?. I could give 2 hoots that the kid is gloating about Intel. Absolutely rancid bait by the way.
However what the kiddie is missing is that everyone loves the underdog!
Thanks to Intel, AMD cpus have dropped in price so that now I can buy a dual processor at 1/2 the price of last month!

Thank-you, thank-you Intel...

It can be helpful... if it answers my question

I'm going to upgrade my computer soon. I was looking for a X2 but now that the Conroe is in.... I don't want to wait 2-3 months to upgrade. I will upgrade in a matter of weeks (2-3), so basically, I will not wait for the "new better Conroe chipsets". Also, there's no SLI support right now for the Conroe. And we still don't know when nForce is gonna be available for Conroe...

Should I take the more established X2 5000+ (which is selling for the price of the X2 3800+) over the E6600 Conroe?

Ummm, the K8 architecture is freaking 3-4 years old. The Conroe is a brand new architecture. Which do you think will win?
