AMD fans = 1000MHz increments, Intel fans = 1GHz increments

You can usually tell by the speed one posts whether someone has an Athlon or a P4. Why is it that AMD users post using 1000MHz increments and Intel fans post in 1GHz increments?

Case in point:

Athlon overclocked to 11x140 = 1540MHz (not 1.54GHz)
P4 overclocked to 5x400 = 2.0GHz (not 2000MHz)

Just seems unusual to see the two sides post speeds in such radically different conventions. We ought to all just post in "GHz" once we pass the first whole one.

If it's above 0 then it's capital, if it's below zero then it's lowercase:

i think there is a big difference between amd fans and intel fans... like Banditos and HA, it's a war... but the Ghz and Mhz i really don't know, maybe because they wan't to sound different....

seconds uses a small &quot;s&quot;, not a capital S, nanosecond is ns, and millisecond is ms. That's what Physic's unit standand uses anyway.

They are just 1x10^(-3), 1x10^(-6)...

I think its because of the overclocking. AMD users overclock a lot, and with the right board, we can bump it up a little at a time. And maybe bigger numbers make us feel better or something, I dunno. I'm happy with my 1.3ghz chip. It's an AMD

That really depends whether or not your proficient at typing the 'period'. Also, It's should be MHz and GHz.

I have an Athlon, but I always describe it as a 1.2GHz. processor.

However, I think it depends on the actual number that you're trying to type. Most people who post in here have overclocked their FSBs and thus get very strange clock speeds. For example, if I OC my Athlon FSB to 143MHz., I can either say that my chip is 1287MHz. or 1.287GHz. Since it makes no difference either way, people are more used to typing MHz. numbers and therefore that's what they use.

Therefore, I think that if you're referring to the default speed of your chip, you're more likely to use a GHz. number. If you're referring to the overclocked speed of your chip, you're more likely to use a MHz. number.

La Intella's CPU's go up (as of late) in ~100 MHz increases - so it's lazier to just write
1.7 GHz, 2.0 GHz, 3.0 GHz (*sigh* ) and so on.

AMD's CPU's depend on whether you go 200 MHz FSB or 266 MHz FSB. I would write &quot;Athlon 1.4 GHz&quot;, but &quot;Athlon 1333 MHz&quot; ... I think that's about all that there is to it.

Round numbers.
