PowerColor RedDevil is faster than reference design RX 470, and costs the same as reference design. So it will have even higher Performance per dollar ratio.

That is rubbish. The price is above $200 right now for this card.

I believe the extremely high demand for the 4x0 cards are probably triggering vendor price increases, even if they are released to the public is small batches by AMD's AIBs. This is probably skewing the 470 pricing right now.

Out of stock and price could change when it comes back.

Custom models are $210/240 at Newegg right now. Terrible value considering RX 480 is +20% faster and costs the same.

$200ish. The red devil card is OOS already so only option is sapphire at $210. And they also have a similar 480 at $220, Lol. Except of course not available.

I feel prices went up. Now there are no quality 380(x) below $200 either. Saw them ~$150+ recently. So there are no decent, midrange options below $200, except some 750/950/r7 series junk

Priced for miners.
Amd might as well call it miners editions and hike up price 30% first 2 months as miners will get their free cards anyway. And sell it as miners cards.
A bad strategy from amd as it is. Short term it looks good on revenue but long term its a fail. They dont get gamers marketshare that is the long term goal. And prices will colapse in 3 months. No way to handle a brand.
Its the usual unfocused mess. They have the consoles. A strategic advantage so huge on the consumer market its incredible. Yet they seem to be stuck between gamimg and compute abilities. 2 different markets and a clear segmenting strategy no where in sight.
Imo its 130 usd for a 470 4g before this years end. Those who wait will be rewarded.

$160 makes sense. $200 gouging price is ridiculous. Don't buy this card yet.

I have said it before, very strange model lineup. 470 and 480 very close in performance, (and unfortunately price it seems), and then a big gap to the 460, in both price and performance.

What I would like to see is a 1280 or so shader model, at a lower price point, maybe 130.00. Would still be good enough for decent settings at 1080p. The price for the 470 makes a 99.00 460 somewhat more attractive, but in a bad way really. I would still not get a 460 for anything but a SFF build or OEM box with a weak PSU. Just too cut down.

If the price of the 470 were 150.00, it would be a no-brainer over the 480. But at 179.00, it becomes a toss up. I probably would just go with the 470, since it is more than enough for the type gaming I do and is a bit cheaper, although the performance per dollar may be lower.

Not the best time to buy one of the new 14/16nm cards from both AMD and NV, availability will become much better in September and prices will go down to MSRP levels or even lower.

As of now im only looking for the RX 460 now, but i will wait to see availability of different models and prices. Im not going to spend more than 100-120 Euro for it.

So this is the completed bait and switch? This is what we actually get for $200. Is it what we thought we were getting for $200, two months ago? And it doesnt even beat a 970 in perf/watt. lol it cant beat a 28nm gpu! This is good for another 20% rally in AMD stock.

So in short:

Difference in TPU are rather big between the 470 and 480.
Seems 470 is throttled by power consumption compared to the 480.
Power consumption is still at least 40W too high for the given performance. (if they want to compete with nvidia that is).
So not even the 470, a stripped down version, shows any improvement on the power front. This where most people hoped that polaris 10 chip would bring some truth to the 2.x efficiency improvement stories.
Luckily the power difference doesn't really matter in this region for the consumer.. but it does give an extremely bad indication for their mobile competitiveness... (probably not worse then what they had....which was nothing). (as they don't seem to improve one bit by going down in performance compared to the power consumption).

Yea, too bad nVidia doesnt have a competitor in the sub 200.00 range. Might force prices back down to at least MSRP and make availability better. But as Krumme said, demand is high right now for AMD cards because of mining. Prices will come down eventually, although I dont think as far as he said. Maybe to 150.00, (where it should be), for the 470.

Also, power consumption seems still no better than 480, and this was supposed to be the card that actually gave the promised 2.8x increase in performance per watt.

Yes the price is a disaster, but it's mostly because AMD pulled an Nvidia and made up a completely false launch price.

And here's why: AMD probably never had any intention of the RX480 4GB actually selling for $200. That card is vaporware. The RX 470 is the ~$200 AMD card, and the RX 480 8GB, if it ever becomes available for sale again, will be AMD's $250 card. I don't think we'll even see many of them at $240.

So let's get real: prices announced at launch are for review purposes only, and consumers have to see through that BS and look at what AVAILABLE cards are actually selling for.

Remember, board partners have no obligation to sell the reference design RX 480, and that's why they'd prefer to sell their in-house designs for more money. Way more profit margin that way.

Lower prices would not stop miners

As I explained here, the "up to 2.8x increase in performance/watt" was always a fictional number for gaming. According to AMD's own footnotes the 2.8X number only applies to 270X owners who "play" torture test apps like FurMark and are upgrading to a reference-like RX 470 card that adheres to a 110W TDP that will also be used to only "play" torture test apps like FurMark.

At least the RX 470 makes some large performance/watt improvements over Hawaii.

The Sapphire Nitro prices for the 470 listed on Newegg are ridiculous compared to the 480 Nitro, much less the reference.

I'm guessing we won't see actual MSRP/reasonable pricing for Polaris 10 until late September or October.

at least reference 480 4gb at $199 still technically exist...for seconds at a time.

No, I don't see a good way for amd to stop miners from grabbing all the cards at launch. Short of intentially making them bad at mining I guess.

And I don't think AMD gets any profit from the price hikes, that goes to retailers does it not?

Same thing is being said about the $650 1080s and the $430 1070s in the Nvidia forum. Unfortunately, this is a case of wishful thinking and just isn't correct.

There will be no $150 card. We ARE seeing MSRP. The RX 470 4GB is a $210 card.

Really disappointed in AMD's actions as of late. I just hope Nvidia gets their rear in gear on the vulkan/dx12 front and make my 1060 a slam dunk.
