AMD Fury Series disappointment

Interesting twist. I see what you did RIGHT THERE. My cards still make me giddy. I'd install them inside my body if we had the technology. I want them inside me.

If Nvidia released a card with the exact same die, HBM, and everything, in place of its existing 980ti, it would sell 5x as many units and no one would call it a failure. Even if it was AMD who released the 980ti, Nvidia would still sell more.

Hold up, these reverse role posts always confuse me. And I don't want to lead into it with that asinine "so what you're saying" opener.

If the roles were reversed, you'd argue Nvidia would sell even MORE cards? I'm not sure how valid that is, but if the Fury X was faster, with more memory, used less power, and cost the exact same price as the 980 Ti I would not have a 980 Ti in my sig.

Now, I would think Nvidia would still out sell AMD (Fermi 480 vs Cypress 5870 anyone), but I doubt Nvidia would sell 5X more units than what they did now.

I dont think so, it has exactly twice of everything, and it even has more bandwidth per shader. 87% is mediocre at best.
The problem with fiji is that AMD killed its performance to get better power consumption, or the CPU becomes a bottleneck cause of drivers, or simply the frontend cannot feed all shaders.

Fiji isn't a 2 x Tonga, it doesn't double the front end and shader clusters.

Frightened? If one thing I've noticed about Nvidia, is they are arrogant. Extremely arrogant. Look at Fermi. They didn't even flinched they believed their own marketing so much.

$650 for reject $1,000+ chips? Mean while AMD is giving you a water cooler, full chip, and break-thru memory and still loses in the majority of benches?

Nvidia either didn't expect 980 Ti to beat Fiji or knew exactly what Fiji was and tore a whole into it's sail.

Same I don't think they were frightened. We had all the precursors of the 980ti with Titan x? We saw it happen last time with the original Titan.

Nvidia is arrogant I agree with that too.

That is earned arrogance though. They play to win, and amd just doesn't come out with that same fire. They play nice, push now standards new tech. Nvidia gives you performance right then and there, they crush benches on releases, they market a1, nvidia is the perfect company at timing things. Amd needs to learn how to time things if they want to compete with nvidia.
