The main problem with the pentium is that some current console ports wont even run on non-HT dual cores. I am not advocating Pentium as a gaming cpu, unless you are focusing on certain highly single threaded games, but certainly nothing in the chart posted by parvadomus would justify calling it "garbage". The game looks perfectly playable to me. And that is not even the 3258 overclocked, but just a garden variety stock pentium.

The minimum framerate is the worrying bit. Its performance is less consistent than even a C2Q. But yeah, that's stock; OC it looks a lot better.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

That poor Celeron. :awe:

May as well buy a console.

Exactly my point, just because the games are designed for 6 cores you don't need 6 cores to have the same performance.
The lowest dual reaches "next-gen" levels even with monitoring soft and video recording so the higher clocked ones are more than enough for the average gamer.

this is how I see it as well. Intel had nothing to compete with the 8310 that was $100 pre-$25-off

if I could find an 8310 for around $100 (and cheap MB good enough to handle it) it would be difficult to resist... unfortunately it's a lot more expensive for me.

Not to mention its an OEM product without a cooler sold in what, 2 places?

115$ at tiger+whatever a cooler needed cost. Plus they refer to AMD for support and warranty. But AMD doesnt handle any support or warranty on OEM CPUs.

Any tray CPU from AMD or Intel has 12 months warranty from the manufacturer.

No they dont. And its not handled by the companies. Its not uncommon outside the EU to see tray parts as it is with 30 to 90 days warranties from the distributor alone.

I bought a tray Q8200 and Athlon X2 4200+ both with 1 year OEM warranties.

CPUs have such a low defect rate I've never seen anything personally that wasn't PEBKAC. If it is hardware it's almost always mobo/ram/gpu related.

No they dont.

Yes they do,
Tray SKUs have 12 months warranty from the manufacturer. I know first hand

And its not handled by the companies.

For AMD Tray SKUs that is correct, the Warranty is handled by the OEM or the retailer/e-tailer etc. That means the CPU must be returned to the original purchased point (e-tailer for example) and the e-tailer will request an RMA from AMD.

Its not uncommon outside the EU to see tray parts as it is with 30 to 90 days warranties from the distributor alone.

Tigerdirect says 12 months warranty, that complies with AMD tray CPU warranty.

They dont have any warranty from the manufactor. And its up the country/store to decide what warranty is applied. Whatever that timelegth is its undetermined. 30 to 90 days warranty periods in the US on tray CPUs isnt uncommon for example. While in the EU its mandatory 24 months. Neither AMD or Intel wants to touch OEM CPUs from endusers.

If the processor was purchased separately and was not sold in a sealed, retail-packaged box, the processor is consider to be OEM. Warranty service will be provided by the point of purchase and not AMD.

Can I contact Intel directly for a processor replacement for an OEM or tray processor?
No. You need to contact your place of purchase or computer manufacturer in regard to OEM processor warranty replacement. Intel does not provide warranty service for OEM processors.
Its great that Tigerdirect provides 1 year warranty. However their guidelines on their site for supprot and warranty handling is wrong.

Read again what i have said,

When you buy a tray SKU you have 12 months of warranty BUT,

You have to return the CPU to the place you bought it (for example Tiger Direct), then they will request an RMA (if the CPU is within warranty conditions) from AMD and AMD will replace and send the new CPU to them (Tiger Direct). Then Tiger Direct will return the CPU to the owner.

edit: Same applies for Intel Tray CPUs as well.

Wrong. You have 24 months of warranty if within the EU. And god knows what you have outside the EU. Newegg usually only gives 30 days on an tray CPU. And its entirely up to the shop in terms of what warranty is provided.
