Not really sure why anyone building a new system or even upgrading would buy these. The FX-8120 (the only one that makes a tiny bit of sense) is comparable to the Core i5-2500K in multi-threaded but 40-45% slower in everything else, not to mention consumes ~50% more power on full load. Overclocked, it's just a mess: no better than Sandy Bridge as it can 'only' reach 4.5GHz on average, while power consumption comparing both overclocked and overvolted the FX-8120 will consume >100% more power.

It's also only 10-15% faster than the Phenom II X6 in multi-threaded benchmarks which I don't think is enough to warrant an upgrade, especially when you can get a 1055T for only $150. The FX-6100 at 4.5GHz should be comparable to a Phenom II X6 at 4.2GHz, and would consume a bit less power. It's also more expensive, however.

Before the benches were released, I was really interested in the hex core version, the FX-6100. But I fear it'd be more of a side grade, I'd trade my four real cores for three modules with six partial cores. I'll wait a while and see what happens with prices.

Guess people are buying them, although I can't imagine why.

Have an AM3+ board, so really not sure what I want to do yet. If it wasn't for the exponentially higher power consumption when OC'd I'd probably pick one up, just can't believe how much power current steppings suck down when you OC them to more competitive clock speeds.

Might just stick with my X4 955 for now and wait for future steppings (like C0, which I think is supposed to be introduced with the FX-4170) or Piledriver and see if AMD can get things sorted out. If they can get them to hit higher clocks while keeping power consumption in check and/or improve IPC in Piledriver, it would be a pretty solid option.

Bulldozer is the architecture, Zambezi is the core for desktops, Interlagos for servers

I ordered one. I was in a position where I didnt want to rebuild but had Planned on a CPU upgrade to bulldozer.

I already have my tracking # from Newegg for a 8120. I had a $30 credit so not too bad (199.99)

Zambezi is the codename for the desktop version of Bulldozer. The server version codenames are Valencia (up to quad-module/eight-core) and Interlagos (up to eight-module/sixteen-core).

Bulldozer is the architecture; Zambezi, Valencia, and Interlagos are the codenames for the different versions of Bulldozer.

Pile driver is the next series of chips in 2012, but still under Bulldozer

Wow i'm so relieved I waited before buying an AM3+ board!!!!
I'll stick with my X4 955 OCed and upgrade with FM2 in 2012, not reason to get one of those.
