People really believed on this slide as a "leak" even though it was from a SPECULATION thread, doesn't have the proper tone of red (amd uses dried blood red, not "crayon" red), the TBD specs and the red behind the specs is diffuminated left to right instead of top to bottom?

When was the last time you saw a faked slide?

It's right around CeBIT, where they'd be announcing this sort of stuff anyways. It's not like there's anything unreasonable here. We already know or could assume everything that's on this slide.

Fake slides? all the time, which is why i am baffled that people believed it at once.

Unreasonable? naw, but not official at all, not even close as whoever did the slide for his own speculation made it with obvious errors and leaving in a technical blank the specs he didn't feel like expanding on.

That said, their refresh will come timely this time, as unlike in the 6xxx's time they aren't jumping to a different architecture for the refresh (VLIW5 to VLIW4 from 58xx to 69xx).

Sapphire has been hinting at 1.3ghz cards due soon.

I just don't see them adding extra shader clusters, since the ROPs are unlinked, its going to be the same 32 ROPs, even more bottlenecking.. if its an entirely separate chip design ground up, too much R&D investment. So its fake.

Only logical "refresh" would be 1.3ghz edition.

I would be disappointed if the 8970 doesn't get us at least 40-50% more performance at extreme settings compared to a 7970 at stock, besides, it should OC just as well to be truly worth it and preferably cost around $500 or lower

I doubt it. It'll be a refresh.

One wacky thing though is that many games are really getting cpu limited. So it will end up being at some point where you will no matter what but have to overkill the graphics settings to really show any major differences. 79xx already easily handles every single game out there and at very nice eye candy settings...

Game engines need to start properly using the CPU cores and going upto 4 cores at least. The new consoles can't come out soon enough.

Skyrim CPU boost was a good example of the community fixing the craptastic coding from the publishers.

It wasn't charlie, it was some european dude on a speculation thread, and that dude must be lolling hard at all the peeps who thought it was a "leak".

Chiphell with more fake BS. AMD could do a 7970 refresh by just cherry-picking the top chips and setting the clocks higher.

9800XT style with somewhat improved default clocks and then overclocking headroom above that with an increased power cap, and put on better cooling.

But that's what board partners can do anyway, so it doesn't really work.

isn't that the rumored name of the 7990 chip?
speaking of which, will it be a 7870 X2 or 7950 X2?
