I see there's a lot of discussion here about audiophile technologies. When I think audiophile I think "accurate sound reproduction of original source".
But I really don't believe this is what amd is pushing, is it?
It sounds to me like amd is pushing more technologies that CREATE that original source. You still need a DAC to actually render the sound, right?
So, more HRTF function type stuff, like what A3D (Aureal 3-Dimensional) and creative CMSS do. Right?
I think it would be cool if they could really push this and possibly in the future have the card render audio correctly dependant on 3d geometry.
Proper echos, reverb, dampening.
I want effects like when you have a full spectrum of sound from a source and a large objects moves in between the source and the player that the higher frequencies get muted. (think helicoper thumping out of view suddenly clears over a hill and is in full view and you suddenly get impacted with the full spectrum of sound coming from the helicopter)
I want effects like sound travelling excellently acrross the surface of a smooth lake.
I want to be creeping around at night alone and hear someone suddenly whisper in my ear and jump in my seat with terror.
