Ok, so part of me wants to believe that this audio stuff is only Part 1 of the presentation of the new GPU's features...but then another part of me is freaking out at the fact that we've been hearing about audio for a longer time than we have graphics

This is like physx, it's going to destroy your CPU if you don't have an AMD card.

...I think. Honestly this makes me pretty mad but I think accelerated audio is a little more important than accelerated physics right now. And it looks like AMD prolly wont lock Nvidia out... maybe.

Unless you get lossless encodings included with games the quality doesn't change. It's just offloading which can be done with current audio products.

What is this doing that no other sound card on the market does? That's the important factor.

Oh God, he did not just try to convince me that reaction to audio cues is more important than visual cues. Maybe over my 12th beer but not while I'm watching a GPU launch...

Because it's nothing new. Creative did it with their EAX over 10 years ago. Microsoft axed it then with Vista. :sneaky:

The way you put it, it seems like they are trying to shift focus off their card which probably won't beat the GTX 780, and to something different to make you forget that it's slower. I am not watching currently but if it's like everyone is saying...that's the feeling I get.

I honestly don't/can't hear a difference, I'm one of those people who is more then happy with 2.0 headset I have a 5.1 Setup in my leaving room, and its all the same to me even in movie theaters, so at this point this is a pointless part of the presentation to me, audiophiles on the other hand might like this.....

I think this initiative sounds great. There was a patch for MWO that disabled 7.1 and I simply could not play the game in 2.0. It was so aweful, like playing in 640x480. But then I have exceptionally good hearing and play music too.

This article suggests the 280x will be a 7970Ghz rebadged....i did not watch the rest of the livestream cause i care nothing about some stupid audio presentation and i kept watching the view counter swapping numbers....mostly lowering lol.
