The Unreal 4 Demo looks much better. Damn, even the Unreal 3 Demo with the guy and the robot is better.

The TrueAudio guy made a big deal about this working on stereo or headphones, exactly what you said most gamers have. So it will help them, if not people with better setups.

If it was between one or the other, I will always take grass. Lot more of it in a game.

Yes, but think about it this way. It would be like buying a 3-4k audio receiver for your home theater and connecting a $80 set of speakers. Audio quality is first and foremost your equipment. 2.0 sound from $500 speakers will be 100x better than 7.1 sound from $50 speakers. Cheap speakers is what most people use...

positional audio is not about creating the best sound stage, bass, highs, clarity.

its about changing the signature to mimic a sound coming from behind you with 2 speakers, or a sound coming from above with 5.1 setup.

glad to see audio making a big push.

creative eax on windows xp was orgasm for your ears. straight wall hacking.

last few years has been abysmal in the stereo positional audio.

True! Just wish we'd see something equally revolutionary with the hardware or the card pricing.

No it's just looking at the reality of things. 4k will come, probably to PC monitors before TV screens in the mainstream. Resolution and sharpness will trump VR.

Well, lets just say we agree to disagree. 4K will be nice, 8K will be nice, but those are small improvements. Going from 360p to 1080p is a far bigger jump in immersion than going to 4K/8K. Diminishing returns will become a bigger and bigger problem.

I tried some primitive VR 13 years ago in a arcade game, it felt, even to this, more "real" than the latest monitors/games/GPUs can offer.

Agree. Both it all relies on the equipment in the end. Ever heard 'immersive 7.1 sound' coming from a 2.0 laptop? Yeah, it sounds just like 2.0.

I am VERY suspect of any of these effects except under very specific circumstances. That would include a game being built with it in mind AND good equipment.

I don't agree, 4k is a huge step up. It takes the visual from nice to "looking out a window" experience. It removes that artifact of knowing it's still a display. Huge difference.

I am not saying people should pay more for TrueAudio, but if it is included for a small cost, I can see the value there. Even for laptop speaker users.

But you are still looking at a display. It is a clear, crisp display but still a display. 4K is more valuable in the Rift and I see higher resolution displays as a key improvement for future VR efforts. Never thought smartphone displays would actually create some value for me.

The 1st 4k panels came to the TVs, only now 4k is getting on Monitors, resolution is not everything DPI is far more important, Pixel density rather then just brute resolution is what makes a image sharper and better looking. for example a 31" 4k monitor has a 142 ppi while the Oculus rift has 440 ppi, doesn't mean the VR will have the better image, no but great image is a combine of many factors Colors, PPI and Resolution, it will still be at least 2-4 years before 4k is wildly available, mainly because of the sheer size of 4k content and that gets bottleneck by both current Hard Drives and Internet Bandwitch.

I agree, but they are only including it on a few of their new cards. If they want it to gain traction, it needs to be on all their cards.
