What's the point of still using the 5450? Intel 3000 and 2500 outright beat it. Intel 2000 is about equal. So there's not even a point of having it in an Intel system as it would slowdown the system's gaming capability significantly. I guess it's for Bulldozer systems?

My Intel based HTPC is a Core 2 Duo which doesn't have the shiny new IGP's and is running a 5450. The other potential issue with Intel's IGP is it only supports single-link DVI, so if you want >1920x1200 you'll need a board with a displayport output and either a monitor that has DP or a DP>Dual Link DVI adapter.

I'm thinking this is part of the "stop hemorrhaging money by rebranding everything" strategy.

First it was existing software, now it's spread in to their own product line...

Perhaps its part of their "let's stop beating NVDA" campaign.
Seems kinda cruel to keep rubbing it in I guess...

I agree, they started with "Never Settle" and they will more than likely rebrand their enthusiast GPU's.

Did the previous examples of rebranding, did that affect prices on the original? Like, did 6770 coming out cause the 5770 prices to drop? Then maybe it's good to increment the numbers ASAP so we get discounts on the lower-number parts (that are otherwise equivalent if you conceal the model numbers).

Oh lord how lame is that??? AMD definitely losing credibility over such nonsense, why not just keep the name the same if its for OEMs??

So when are their real next gen cards coming if the 8xxx series is just a name change?

...

I'm also on a C2D, totally considering upgrading from my $9 2400XT to the new Oland 8570, if they sell it at retail. New version of Turks 6570, at 28nm and Direct3D 11.1, what's not to like?

Yes, while Nvidia 8000-9000 and ATi 2000-3000 were very similar, they were much more than rebadges. Sure the 8800GT became the 9800GT and the 8800GS became the 9800GSO, but that's it. Everything else were new cards that just had similar performance (much like the 3870 = 2900XT performance, but completely difference cards). This is virtually a wholesale reproduction of the AMD 7000 series. The handful of new cards are in the lower end of performance anyway. Thank goodness it's OEM.

if you consider G80 as the 8800 series than sure... it was somewhat different,
but if you consider the 8800GT and GTS 512MB, than not really, it was basically a rebrand, same chip small clock bumps...

sure they later moved the G92 to 55nm, but they didn't really improved or changed the design, performance was the same...

from R600 to RV670 there was a big redesign with the ring bus thing, memory, DX10.1 and UVD support...

the fact that the same model (9800GT) had both the g92(65nm) and the g92b(55nm) without any difference, and the same actually happened for the 9600GT (g94 65 and 55nm)... the GTS 250/9800GTX+ was pretty much a higher clocked 9800GTX/8800GTS (the g92 model, not the slower g80 8800GTS)...

but we are not talking about OEM in this case, AMD last major renaming was the 6700 series

to be honest if you look at the GTX 500/400 series there is a lot in common, if you compare gf106 to 116 and all that stuff, and now the gf108 cards (GT 430/44) are still being sold as GT 630

anyway, mobile and OEM was always bad...
let's see what's going to happen with retail, the 6700 was also supposedly OEM only in the beginning

Some people just really like to find reasons to complain about nothing. They are models for OEM's. Doesn't anyone understand how that works?

Of course, AMD hired Roy Taylor as Head of AMD world wide sales. Formerly, VP Global Channel Sales for nVidia.

I will laugh my ass off if that is actually AMDs card release this year and that is all there is. They built a pretty big chip with 7900 so its fair to assume there isn't much wiggle room for more transistors at this process node.

They can pull an nVidia and kill off the Tahiti XT and supercharge the ... I forgot what the 7800 chip was called. Haha. Verde is the 7700...

Anyways, yeah dump the GPGPU crap, it isn't making a difference, and make a GK104 clone!

Not if it means having to go with a 256-bit bus. The biggest problem with GK104 is that it is limited in terms of memory bandwith. That's why you see AMD doing better with AA and high resolutions.
