I was wondering how much less heat the pentiums produced compared to AMD's? I currently run two pc's that have both amd's overclocked a 2100+ and a 2500+. And when overclocked the room would get very hot compared to the rest of the house. I have since ran normal settings and only have one pc on and it is still hot. I know work from home and was wondering if I switched back to P would that cool down the room? Thanks

well. it depends on what you are comparing. intel's prescotts are extrmely hot, but their celerons are fairly cool. the P4 Northwoods are somewhere in the middle. As for the AthlonXP's, they run a bit hotter then P4's (tho this can be debated). The mobiles are fairly cooler than both P4's and regular XP's which is a reason they're so hot.

And what do you mean your pc is still hot? I don't think the PC would contribute so much heat that makes your room that much hotter. It could be other factors involved in that.

My P4 2.8C system is fairly cool and doesn't heat my room to much. My 19' monitor though turns my room into a sauna.

You can find processor heat outputs (typical and maximum) at http://www.sandpile.org. If you want cool operation, hook yourself up with an Athlon64 and enable Cool 'n Quiet. It'll drop to 800MHz @ 1.3V when it has nothing to do that 800 Hammer MHz can't handle. Even at full speed, mine doesn't produce much heat. But yeah, if you have a CRT monitor, that's the first thing to target.

That was the primary reason I went to LCD The thermidstat on my puron A/C system is in another room and I'd have to set it to 72f to get the temp bearable in my computer room this time of year here in florida. Conversely, by using LCDs I'm able to set it at 76f and it be livable in here, that translates to real power savings and throws the CRT fanboy argument about a LCDs power saving features over CRT being miniscule out the window in my case I can assure anyone who wonders, that the difference between 72 and 76 on my power bill would be approx. $50-$75 a month. Makes the LCDs more economical just in the savings it translates to :light:
