<< how can you expect to get proper help if you make NO sense whatsoever? >>

LOL, right on. The thread title is whacked and so is your mumbling. Please be coherent, only then you will receive proper help.

Amdwolfman -

I'm in the process of replacing my Aptiva 2170, which uses an AMD K6II-475. I don't know what motherboard the computer uses, but it's based on a SIS 535 chipset. The onboard sound is okay for CD's, but it eats up processor cycles, so If I use any media player or RealOne, I cant run other processes without the sound getting 'choppy'. The video shares memory with the system RAM, so don't expect fireworks there, either.

FYI - the AMD K6II-500 is a processor. Processors are mounted to a motherboard, and motherboards can (but don't always) have integrated sound, video, etc. People were giving you a hard time about your question because there is no K62 'board'.

Visceral may have some good advice - If you don't feel comfortable with the lingo, you're asking for a world of headaches trying to build a system based on this motherboard.

That said - my aptiva has been great; It's (relatively) stable under win98, and it runs explorer and MS word just fine. I assume you ou can build a great light-duty system on an old Aptiva motherboard with a 500 MHz K62.

This is the only aptiva e I found at ibm.com ...not saying they never made it in k62..just not easily found by me. found this in k62 and finally in the Great White North it is found.

Without knowing the machine type of your computer we cant tell you exactly what that computer may have in it. But you did give the model which is 21u.

This one is below has a AMD K6-2 450mhz processor.

IBM Aptiva 2170-21U

This one has a Celeron 500mhz processor.

IBM Aptiva 2270-21U

It is possible he got the 2170-21u with an upgrad on cpu to a K6-2 500mhz.

IF what he is referring to is an IBM E2U motherboard, he should pay you $5 to take it off his hands! I had one and it had no AGP slot, ONE (count 'em ONE) PCI slot, which was shared with one of the 2 ISA slots. It did have onboard audio and video (ATI Rage 2x agp with 4 mb of ram) whoopee! Seriously, such a board would be okay for free to build a basic PC to donate to someone for word processing, e-mail and a little web surfing, but for more serious (or fun) applications, you would be better served to buy a newer motherboard that supports the current Celeron or Duron processors. And okay versions of these can be had for around $60 US brand new.
