at stock it runs all 8 cores at nearly 4Ghz which is quite a jump from my 1800x

Could you make a thread comparing your 5960X vs your 2700K? Multi-threaded and single-threaded performance since you don't have similar graphics on both machines

I'm assuming you mean on all 8 cores?

I have my 2700x under an EK EVO Supremacy block and I played around with some overclocking. At 4.2 on all 8 cores I needed 1.41v to run Intel burn test stable. I really have not played around with overclocking as much since at stock a few of the 2700x cores jump to 4334.

I think there is very limited headroom for overclocking all 8 cores in the 2700x but at stock it runs all 8 cores at nearly 4Ghz which is quite a jump from my 1800x AND the temps are a lot lower.

I ran my 1800x OC'd to 4Ghz on all 8 cores but the stock 2700x is slightly more responsive and scores a bit better in benchmarks.

Temps for the 2700x really jump at 4.2 (all 8 cores) and above. Just not worth it vs stock.

I'm using an Asus CH6H mb with the latest release BIOS 6004. Most likely a premium x470 mb will be able to squeeze a bit more performance from the chip but I doubt much more.

BTW, I jumped to the 2700x because I had @$325 in gift cards. I'll repurpose the 1800x.

I agree that it doesn't seem like 4.2 is worth it on a 2700X. However, 4.2 on a 2600X might be worth it depending on how the voltage works out.

Gikaseixas: I'll try. The 5960x is OC'd to 4.4 while the 2700x is stock. What tests do you want me to run?

@guskline thanks for reverting to my question
Cinebench, handbrake, PassMark, etc
Since the 2700x has bursts to 4.3, you could keep it stock vs OC'd

Sorry I forgot to run handbrake. I'll do it later.

Gikaseixas, I downloaded the latest version of Handbrake. What file do you want me to work on it?

Gikaseixas: I went ahead and OC'd the 2700x to 4.2 on all cores via AMD RyzenMaster using 1.425vcore to assure stability. Runs hotter but was stable in all tests. Here is the updated chart for you to view. Please let me know what file you want run with handbrake.
Have a great day

hmm Geekbench Multithread Is much worse than 5960x.Singlethread is on par with 5960 yet 16.6% slower.something wrong with bench or Arc.

PhonakV30, what is strange is the stock 2700x Geekbench 4.2 score (I own a license) is actually higher than the OC'd 4.2 score. Perhaps the automatic OCing of the stock chip (some of my cores on Aida64 stress show speeds of 4344) performs better than OC'd 4.2 on all 8 cores.

Also shows how powerful an OC'd Haswell E chip still is. However it cost me $1000 vs $329 for the 2700x.

And it still goes for over $1100 on newegg. And a refurb is $449

In fairness, Intel typically has a quick hook when it comes to HEDT once the replacement product is available. Broadwell-E and Kaby-X for instance is already in the discontinued process.
