<<Hmm ... sounds like you haven't built any "newer" systems.>>

You do need the INF updater for i815 chipsets, it requires about as much effort as installing 4in1.

<<You're joking right? Either that, or you haven't built many of either type.>>

Yes I believe that was a joke. But I seriously do not believe AMD systems are any harder or easier to build than Intel ones.

<<I agree about MSI, my very first AMD system was started out with a MSI K7T Turbo and it was complete junk.>>

You must be doing something funny with your board.

<<The voltages in the BIOS are not correct>>

I dont think any board is correct, every board gives a little extra voltage to what you select. I have seen Asus, MSI, Iwill and others all doing this.

looking at the number of problems i see here and at viahardware i would say people are more likely to run into problems with certain boards/chipsets used for AMD CPUs.

The situation is hard to judge because many many people never run into problems or can solve them themselves. However vendors i have talked etc consider the AMD situations more problematic by a long shot.

Looking at the 686b situation. Via didnt exactly come up with a solution rapidly ( i know you can say it isnt Via's fault, but whoever was to blame it dragged on too long). Also if you were a newbie- sussing out the best 4-1s to use, or what drivers to include/ exclude would be a nightmare. After trying many configurations- the only way i could get stability was to disable ACPI completely- which is more of a patch that a fix. On average the people here are pretty knowledgable, for many many people reformatting and reinstalling a OS is just not viable.

Like Noriaki, i wont be hurrying out to buy a Via chipset in a hurry. Howver the AMD 760 solutions look pretty damn nice
