AMD newbie question

Folks, I just assembled a Duron rig and it seems to be running awful warm. I'm more familiar, right now anyway, with FC-PGAs and their temp characteristics. My rig is a 750 Duron on an MSI K7T Pro 2A with a FOP38 with the 60mm delta screamer. Right now it's running at 37-38C at idle or light load with the case open. I've got an 80mm fan up front pulling in air and an 80mm fan in back blowing out. Just a little while ago I had the case buttoned up, running the CPU at 8x and 100Mhz FSB at idle and the temp jumped to 40C. I dropped the multiplier back to stock setting and opened the case and it dropped fairly quickly. I wouldn't mind leaving the case open but that delta drives me beserk! Is there another HSF out there that might tame this beast or is it just a matter of more case fans and better ventilation? I was hoping to get some input from some of the more knowledgeable members out there. Thanks folks!

40 Degrees isn't too high with AMD's, heck, even with my P3 750, it runs 30-35 degrees underload (as per in my specs). I dont konw why people say AMD's run a lot hotter, my p3 500 with retail used to run 60+ degrees and it was 100% stable. Anyways, back to ur problem, ur temps seem fine, shoudln't be too harmful to ur comp.

Duron 900@1044, 1.85V, 38Deg full load/case on. 2336, when the heatsink starts glowing/getting too hot to touch, you'd better back off Nah, really, your temps are fine. I'd say around 65-75Deg you should start to worry, and at that temp your cpu probably wont be stable.

Thanks guys. I'm used to 34C under load for a Celeron II 633 overclocked to 850Mhz. When I saw 40C, and then 37C at a complete idle with the case open it definitely caught my eye! BTW, lurker, I read your PM, thanks for the input. I just figured I'd give it a shot based on the current PW prices. I'm in no hurry to sell that card (as you may have surmised) it's a nice one and might find a home in my test rig - PIII 500 KatMai, P3V4X, Pioneer 10X DVD, Creative Labs NVIDIA TNT2 M64 16MB and SCSI everything else! Thanks again guys!

I've got the globalwin wbk except I replaced the stock fan with a ys-tech 26 cfm fan. That along with using the 7v trick on some of my case fans helped bring down the noise level.

My temps on a TBird 900@1020 under full load running RC5 are 46-49C with usually very little flucuation. I think your temps are decent for your setup. I would recommend replacing the delta with a quieter fan if the noise bothes you.

2336,

How did you apply that HSF? By that I mean did you tweak it? Lap the HS, apply Arctic silver I or II?

We're not in Kansas anymore!

Your temps are well withing normal range. Some of the Tbirds run at up to 60C. AMD are just warm running chips. :Q

Thanks again for everyone's input! I'm more used to seeing 34C on a Celeron 366 overclocked to 578!!! Thanks again!

I put a low speed, low CFM, basic 60mm Sunon fan on my FOP38 with a similar rig and with 21degC ambient temp, it runs similar temps to your chip. Only way, way quieter.
