I'm no veteran here, but i already know what they will say.
First off, what are you using this PC for?
Then, if it's anything but video encoding, etc., get a 64-Bit

I call, and raise to within 5 more posts. As said, if it's not for media encoding, get the A64.Originally posted by: nick1985 an AMD vs. intel thread eh.... ::shakes 8 ball:: 8 ball says that within 10 posts there will be a flame war.

Get a Celeron, dude. Preferably pre-built. Now diss me for this advice and come back like many months from now and blame yourself for not following my piece of advice.
Peace
Unholy Intel Batman! The 2.6GHz Celeron is getting beat up by Athlon XP 1700+!

I didn't say it was faster. It's slower indeed, but it's also noticeably cheaper, especially if you get it with a Dell deal or something like that. All these ultra powerful and expensive CPUs will turn in trash next year, so speed isn't a primary factor of choice, IMO. And if it's built by Dell it will be trouble-free and quiet unlike the one you assemble yourself, I'm not even talking about issues you may encounter. It will also be cheaper, probably. So you will not follow this advice of mine but I'm speaking from experience so it's up to you to decide.

Low end performance: AMD. AMD is both faster and cheaper at the low end.
High end performance: get whichever one you want. Performance isn't different enough to worry about, and price isn't too far off either. I would consider the parts you mentioned to be high end.
