AMD or Intel

Hi everyone.

I wana upgrade my machine that is quite obsulite in some parts (sorry about my english)

AMD Athlon XP 1.7+
512 MB
MoBo (I have no idea, buts old (ram 133 MHz, agp 4x, like that))
ATI 9600XT AGP 8x 256MB
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

I want to stay with my ATI and Sound Card, my problem is getting a good cpu and mobo for agp and ddr2.


do you know any mobo AMD AM2 AGP?
How about mobo for E6400 with AGP?

The AM2 and the C2D are both PCIe. They do not make one for AGP. Not that I have seen. For AGP I would go for a 939 or a pentium D series and would need a 3 series chipset motherboard. If you are planning on going AM2 or C2D it would be very wise to update the video card too since it too is dated.

The ASRock 775Dual-VSTA allows for both DDR1 and AGP with the Intel socket 775 (E6400). It can be found at newegg for $55.

AMD am2 X2 5000+
Mobo ASUS wifi
Corsair Twin XMS2 2048MB (400/800MHz) DDR2
ATI X1800 GTO PCIe
Samsung sp250 GB
ATX N-quiet 530 Watts

or something like that, but it gets a litle expensive

If I have to go to 939, what do you people recommend?
4800+?

How about the ddr2, wont i notice the difference of below in performance, 939 is DDR1 right?

You could go to Newegg and get the A64 3400+ with Biostar MB for 99 bucks. It has AGP, although not DDR2, but since you aren't going to use your old ram anyway, you can pick up 184 pin ram for it. 1 GIG of quality value ram will cost around 100 bucks. You will also need a HS/Fan since the chip is OEM.

You can still have conroe cpu with your old agp video....
Get your self some ASROCK motherboard...They have a bord that have a PCI xpress & an AGP on it...

So by the time you'll upgrade your video, you won't change mobo....
