AMD or nVidia take my money

I just sold my remaining 780Ti Classy. Grabbed two for $550 each of an Amazon warehouse deal way back. Funny though I remember being stoked about 290 CF. Poor OEM cooling at launch, followed by inflated pricing nixed that plan.

Come on AMD, June? Come on NVidia, a $1000 bucks? I was thinking of grabbing a single 970 w/game, but that's falling victim (of sorts) to this poor situation. 970 and 980 going this long without competition is ridiculous. Stepping backwards for cheaper stop gaps is not an option.

Shame on both of you AMD and nVidia.

If you are OK with SLI/CF, then I think the best bang for the buck right now is CF 290/X/ or one 295X2. You could always get two 290X 8GB cards on sale for under $400 each if you need more RAM.

June is only 6 weeks away. BE STRONG!

there are many old options

honestly I feel that the older options right now are the best. I would grab a 295x2 now for 5-600 and maybe around Christmas time comes sell it for $400 and grab the best thing out that you can afford. This way you will get monster performance now while not losing much money on the flip.

I will also sell you a Titan Z for $1500 if you want :0)

I've been rolling with 780 sli for almost 2 years now. While it's fine and all, it leaves me wanting at 120hz 1440p. I'm tempted to spring for Titan X's, but I just don't see the value. With the Kepler Titans, at least you could argue the high DP performance. They had to slap 12 gigs of ram on the X to justify the price tag, and I just can't imagine anything ever needing 12 gigs that the card would actually be able to run worth a damn.

I'm also afraid that the 390X is going to launch with 4 gigs, and we wont see 8 gigs for several months. So if that happens, and Nvidia counters with a 6 gig 980ti, I imagine that's what I'll be going with. But if AMD has 8 gig's at launch, I'll be all over it.

You might have to check FS/FT. I saw one last night for ~$570 shipped but I can't find it now. I can't find any deals on new right now. I think they sell pretty quick at the $600 price range new. I jumped in on a Visiontek R9 295x2 on Tigerdirect a few weeks ago.

I have 2 R9 290s in CF and watercooled. At stock they are 1000core/1300 mem and I run them with slight OC at 1060 core and 1380 mem.
Clearly not a Titan X but pretty darn fast.

I paid @$300 each slightly used last year after the mining bubble broke (both are Sapphire Tri-X cards) Had to buy the EK blocks but that was my choice to make sure they were custom watercooled.

I agree with Rvenger, right now a 295x2 is a potent punch for a decent price.

I'm in the same boat. Sent my 970s back and then picked up a cheap open box 780 on newegg. After a few weeks I was getting drive crashes, so I sent it back. I've decided to watch HBO Go, play console games, and light PC games on my back up card until the new stuff comes out. Terrible time to buy something right now.

Same situation right now, my 7970 is old and won't cut 4k gaming. Getting 980TI or 390X but the wait is driving me nuts

Subyman, are you waiting for the R9 390/390X to be released?

Yeah, I'm interested in what they can offer. 980TI on GM200 or the R9 390X are my what I'm looking forward to. $550 for a 980 seems like a bad value when $150 or so more could step me up to a GM200 card in a few months. I bought the 680 last time Nvidia put the mainstream chip in their flagship card and don't want to do that again.

@Rvenger

Are you running the 295x2 now, how does that compare to 970 SLI?

@MeldarthX

Not bad a deal, indeed.

This was my first XDMA Crossfire experience and when the games support crossfire, the experience is very smooth. I notice much less input lag with my 295x2 vs 970 sli with vsync enabled. 295x2 feels like a single card and it runs very cool. I put 2 static pressure Phanteks fans in push pull and control them from the motherboard CPU temps. Never exceeds 63c and very quiet. For dual GPUs on a single card, the AIO works very well. Mantle drops my CPU usage around 15% which causes my GPU temps to increase since the fan curve is set to the CPU, so if I am using mantle, I have to run a manual fan through AI suite.

I must say it's a killer card, where for this $$?

Used in the classifieds have been selling for $500 shipped and off and on at Newegg there have been new cards for $600 and change. My friend offered me my old 295x2 back for $500 but I need another highend card like I need a kick to the jimmy.

had a R9 295X2 in my cart this morning for $649 with $30 rebate, said I'd wait till I got to work. Get to work, $ 749. I know it fluctuates, will watch it. All things for a reason, ugh who knows..

If you see it for that price again, go for it. You will like it but just make sure you have adequate room to accomodate for the radiator. I also recommend replacing the stock radiator fan with this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...7&cm_re=phanteks_120mm-_-35-709-037-_-Product

FWIW - I may not even jump on the 390x boat since this card is performing that great. Also, if you want to run without crossfire just run in a borderless window and you have single 290x performance.
