Great deal. I always wanted one of these when I was running AM3 systems daily, but now all of my AM3 systems are repurposed as HTPCs or file servers.

Excellent deal on a reliable CPU. I have the 1090T and it handles all I give it (Photoshop, video editing, etc.) In concert with a good graphics card, this will get the job done.

If the software you use can take advantage of the extra cores, then yeah, I think that it would be, especially if you overclock it. Remember that this is a locked chip.

The turbo is a nice feature, too.

For a $89 upgrade i too would say it's worth it for encoding.

I don't OC my 965 and don't really want to. Just not my thing.
I use Handbrake, Freemake and Vegas for encoding and editing. I honestly am not sure if these programs can take advantage of the extra cores. If they can will there really be a noticable difference over the 965?

I have mine @ 3.7GHz with a CM Hyper 212 Plus. It will do 3.9GHz but is too hot with my setup. Great CPU, was a very nice upgrade from an Athlon II X4 635 (2.9GHz).

FWIW, Micro Center has the same price, but also has $40-$45 combo discount when purchased with a new motherboard (in-store only).

Running a BE550 (4 cores unlocked @ 4.0 GHz) - I do a good bit of encoding with Handbrake and occasional video (Vegas) work. I guess the extra cores will offset the O/C penalty for a locked chip. I want an unlocked 1090T for this price.... sigh. May still get this one - thanks for the posting.

i was trying to think earlier today of something i wanted for xmas....i want this, itll be a nice upgrade to my aging 810 @ 3.1ghz

and that 810 should make a nice upgrade to the x3 hosting my VMs...

if you're doing heavy encoding/editing, then i can see upgrading. I have an x4 945, and i don't do much encoding/editing, so i can't justify it. would be nice to join the x6 club, tho. :/

For a $89 upgrade i too would say it's worth it for encoding.

QFT...gaming no, but encoding and things that will use all the cores definitely even at a slightly slower clock speed overall.

No more than $100. I'd think actually "matching" a vid card for thsi "slow" CPU would be easy... Just didn't want to overachieve.
