If the unlocked one wasn't slow enough...

they arent "that" bad. i mean.. all i need to say is pentium D to bring up a PILE of worse cpu's that rolled off fab. lines
we got similar pc's btw
phenom II x4 965, hd 5830 codmw2 ed., 6gb ddr2-800, win 7 64-bit, 1440 x 900 res.
but i got a better case, more HDD space and a diff mobo
oh we prob. have diff peripherals too.

The enthusiast community such as AT is overall not brand loyal, they are loyal to performance. Intel was a bad joke when A64 and Athlon X2 were king. AMD was respectable when Phenom II was on roughly even footing with C2Q. But as of now AMD CPUs are only competitive in rare situations, Intel has them beat on price and performance at nearly every level, sometimes so much so that it's ludicrous.

AMD GPUs, on the other hand, are highly respected as being as good or better than anything out there.

So, you were saying?

You didn't really disprove anything I said. Besides, it was a joke and I'm pretty sure you knew that.

Which makes it all the more funny, that a friend of mine and his wife, switched from a Q6600 and a Q8200, to AMD Phenom II X4 quad-cores.

Oh AMD marketing is gonna have a field day with this.

...introducing the CHEAPEST 8 CORE EVER SOLD.

*DO THINGS UP TO 8 THINGS SIMULTANEOUSLY!

*Disclaimer:
Actual performance may be 8 times slower.

Drop the disclaimer and that sounds about right....

The only Bulldozer review worth reading is at Lost Circuits. Everything else is lowest common denominator rhetoric designed for users who never intended to own AMD in the first place and enjoy circle jerking.

Those in the market for a HTPC, a VM or distributed computing machine, or an efficient light surfing computer can still depend on AMD. Just because Bulldozer is a wash compared to the PII, I still have a desire to give one a test drive.

Merry Christmas everyone.

That's old news. They're just early engineering samples of the FX that motherboard manufacturers had access to last winter/spring. The clocks are low because they're pre-production, and only intended for AM3+ debugging. They probably called them a Phenom II X8 because AMD hadn't told them what they would be called yet.

A dual-core i3 2100 is gonna to slaughter all these things.

assuming that the phenom II x8 debuts for under $140 i expect to see the i3-2100 to get show the door ever gd time lol. you forget that phenom II x8 is an fx 8100 series thats been locked. the 8120 easily kick the i5 2300 to the curb 9/10. assuming things work out well id immedeately write off the point to getting an i5-2300 anymore XD. and with the benchies from the 6200 we have thus far + the reworked smt patch i expect to see the 6100 beating the i5-2300 most days of the week.
bulldozer aint perfect, but dont start tossing around BS you know is tied to only isolated incidents and/or BS.

These will without a doubt be slower than Phenom II X6, but if priced low enough I wonder how they'll handle rendering or Folding@Home compared to similarly priced processors. 8 slow cores should be good for something right?

Skyrim for one.

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,8...st-Test-des-Tages/Rollenspiel-Adventure/Test/

Phenom II X2 beats FX-8150.

Face it, Bulldozer sucks hard. Maybe a new revision will help substantially. We can hope.

If these are cheap enough, they might be attractive. Whats the point of an unlocked processor when the power consumption is so insane?

Yay hot inefficient 6 and 8 core locked processors to battle against locked intel dual cores with ht and budget locked quads.

We don't need slow ass locked 6 and 8 core processors they seem to be pulling 8 cores at 95watt tdp i bet enough focus and they could bring us some 65tdp quads maybe even a 45tdp unit and at least attempt to battle ivy in efficiency.

Might not be as fast as intels quads but at this point if they can't aim for performance aim for efficiency .

Bulldozer is a turd -pure and simple. Even the Lost Circuits review almost said as much. If you want a HTPC or a light surfing box then you'd be mad to buy one when there are plenty of cheaper as good performing alternatives. Just face it AMD really delivered a POS and there is no getting away from it-Phenom 2 1090 etc beats it at gaming in the lost circuits review -a 6 core cpu from the previous generation?

for gaming, the i3 2100 will beat these new Phenom 2 cpus and a i5 2300 would beat the crap out of them. the 8150 cannot even beat the i3 in games here so how do you think a much lower clocked new Phenom 2 will? http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/amd-fx-8120-6100-4100_6.html#sect0

Did everyone skip over this message? The "Phenom x8" is just ECS & Jetway screwing up their CPU support list.. The CPU code ends with 43 which is revision A1 -> engineering sample from April 2011..
