I wouldn't put the 710 much past 3.0 Mhz with the stock cooler unless you've got superior airflow and noise tolerance/suppression. You certainly can push it higher, but the voltage/heat required seems to provide diminishing returns beyond about this point for me.

My 710 is quite comfortable at 230 reference clock with an unassuming case fan on low, with the fourth core unlocked. I think I bumped the core voltage 50 mV.

Sounds good then. I figured I had a little room with the stock fan. My case is a gaming case with plenty of air flow so that is not an issue. (Thermaltake Soprano with 2 120 MM fans and a 80 MM side fan.)

I had a 720BE on Gigabyte UD5P 14x250=3500mhz at +0.150 Vcore and +0.175v CPU NB 2 hour OCCT stable with 4th core unlocked, but it couldn't go any higher than 3500mhz.
Also, if I had to add minimum +0.175v to CPU NB in order to make all cores stable.

Case temperature reading at load was ~41C cooled by water

Got the new build up and running with Windows 7. I am going to reboot now and check if ACC is in the bios on this board, after flashing the bios with the latest.

Edit: Looks like this particular board does not support AcC, but similar ones with a 710 SB instead of the 700 support ACC.

Oh well, I guess I will try and over clock it a little.

Had to RMA the mainboard. It kept corrupting my Windows installs and would literally lose the image and it took 30 minutes to load both Vista and Windows 7 just to get to the installation part of the process and then it took only 10 minutes to install. This happened on two hard drives and I tested a different DVD ROM I had lying around. There were no stability issues and all the testing I had done on the RAM showed that to not be the source of the problem. I suspect the IDE/SATA controller is bad on the board.

To make a long story short, I ordered a different MB that does support ACC so we will see in a few days what will happen.

This is the one I returned.

This is the one I bought to replace it with.

Quick update: New mainboard is here and i am about to take old Betsy down to re-purpose as a media center pc in the near future. I will post soon and let you know if I have a good fourth core or not.

I've done it with the ASRock AOD790GX motherboard. It has the "AMD SB750" southbridge and allows you to set the "ACC" option in the bios. Just had to set this option to auto and voila, quad core! I must say that the stock cooler isn't suitable for overclocking. I bought the Xigmatek HDT s1283 at NewEgg for $40, lapped it and applied Tuniq TX-2 thermal paste and here are my results: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=721920

Please don't let the processor name and specification disturb you. This is what it read since my first reboot after changing the ACC setting. I assure you that this is the Phenom 11 X3 720 Black Edition processor and this OC has been tested (Prime95 using 8kb min and 8kb max and large FFTs in place).

I'm not certain, but I believe that the "Ext. Family" field in my CPU-Z screen which reads "10" had something to do with my success. I remember seeing a 10 on the heat spreader when I was lapping. I haven't tried overclocking on 3 cores, but I know for a fact by observing a Prime95 failure that it was the locked core that crapped out when I pushed too hard ( the other 3 cores were three or four tests ahead of the weak core by the time Prime95 crapped out). This was at 3.8Ghz (a 1.0Ghz overclock running quad core!)
