. Bulldozer has released and got mixed review or people can say that it didn't meet the expectation set by the hype it created.
Now the next stop is Piledriver from AMD camp.
I am not a Extreme Tech guy I just try to learn thing from net and forums... Its my passion and hobby. So whatever I write here is found from google search or some Tech sites.
I am starting this thread to discuss the next line of processor from AMD.
"Piledriver" is the codename of AMD's processor micro-architecture that succeeds "Bulldozer", which AMD is referring to as a "2nd Generation Bulldozer". Piledriver isn't an evolution over Bulldozer as such, and is more of a incremental update to the architecture.
Piledriver features an improved core design to bring about performance improvements of 10% over Bulldozer. It features two new instruction sets: FMA3 (Fast Memory Access 3) and Converged BMI (Branch if MInus). It will feature an improved IOMMU (memory mapping unit), referred to as IOMMU v2. Apart from these, Piledriver will fit into the existing ecosystem of AMD FX Processors, consisting of socket AM3+ and AMD 9-series chipsets. AMD is currently referring to the platform Piledriver-based processors will form around themselves as "FX Next".

Mods please tell me if anything wrong. I am just alearner and this is my first thread

Not a good idea. Piledriver is tomorrow and hyping for AMD Intel NV has now been poven to be unwise if its aimed at slowing sales of competion from the other guys. Its going to be hard to get this forum to fall into this trap again . Live and learn .

Yeah, BD proved that if you want to upgrade, just get the best (you can afford) that's out today.

Seriously. Can we get something done about this? This forum is becoming useless.

Please unbold the text in your OP, its a needless eyesore as it stands now.

Also, we tend to discourage the use of our forums in "carpet bombing" efforts. If you are going to carpet bomb forums across the internet then you'll get some negative backlash from the community here, its only natural and I feel it only fair to forewarn you.

We welcome you to the forums, we hope you find value in this community and you return the favor, but please don't include us in your carpet bombing runs.

I have to say, whatever their intentions are, AMD's marketing presence on these forums has not impressed me at all, and has probably hurt their company image more than it has helped.

On the other hand I suspect those people who try to feed higher expectations for a product among its prospective users. That ensures that the product will fail as soon as it is released for public consumption.

Of course this thread is intriguing!

Edit: higher expectation = "hopefully unrealistic" expectation

I can go along with a thread like this even this early on, but it needs to have links and pretty pictures of flow charts to look at. I don't see any links and pretty pictures of flow charts.

Rumour Addicts. Too long exposed to Rumour after Rumour, reality is no longer interesting.

Let's skip Pildriver, let's discuss AthlonXX. It's gonna rock, est. release, 2043.

Like I said before in the other thread, this is the new trend (we have seen quite a number lately, the new regs). Kinda remind me of this predicament.

Hehehe. That is funny

I admit, I was looking forward to BD, and I would have even purchased the 8150...BUT I am less than impressed by the energy efficiency.

Anyhow, I don't think anyone is in the correct mindset to start discussing AMD's next great chip. Let the dust settle, then we can get all rumor happy.

Mods: Any sense in requiring at least 10 posts before new users are able to start threads?

Also if PileDriver is 10% better than BD, AMD might as well shut its doors. It needs like 50% higher IPC and higher clocks.

While it is certainly possible many of these new regs will never reach the 100s posts, I don't think it is surprising many legit forum members will choose times coinciding with new releases to appear in the community-

For example I've read AT in and out for some time, then lost a bit of interest in hardware world - X2s and P-Ds were a bit expensive to toy around much and then the 8800 series didn't help either - and then piked up interest a bit more around the GT200 and RV770 .releases as I was thinking of building a new machine and became member at that time.

If Pile Driver is 10% faster/better IPC than BD, atleast then AMD will finally beat an i7...

I was wondering who would be the first to post this reasoning. I really was!

And I'll also sit and truly wonder if you really believe what you just posted. Not publicly of course.

First part would suck, i joined in 2004 to ask a question, having to spam 10 posts to make a new thread would be a pita.

Anyways yeah itll need a hell of a lot more than 10% to beat what intel has in store, +10% and it will equal or beat phenom II, not really a great accomplishment considering phenom II is more or less equal to the Q9xxx series clock for clock from what... 5 years ago?

Yes.

But I have no experience with virus marketing campaigns, so I might just being naive.

Although legit new members will most likely only start new threads if asking for help with some problem and/or buying decision.

There's no harm in discussing Piledriver. It's interesting to see Keys start a witch hunt rather than contributing something useful.

I will say that I hope AMD can work out the issues in Bulldozer relatively quickly and bring us something decent. I have a feeling that there are a few bugs in the design that they can work out, particularly when it comes to power consumption.

That said, things do not look good for AMD. As others have said, 15% more performance is not enough.

If AMD can reign in the power consumption to be competitive with Intel, they will have an excellent workstation and server processor on their hands, which is their niche anyway.

BTW OP welcome to the AT forums.
