Witcher 3 seems bad, becuase its not full even at max settings and it drops to 50 in a light areas... but is stupid to test AMD cards with hairworks on on W3!...

A GTX970 does about 40-45 in the same area at maximum settings.
in Dx11 i think GTX 970 is better but consume more power.

and why do you think that? gut feeling?
by seeing the videos. I do not dream like AMD and their fanboys did with Fury X OC.

RX 480 already popping up on Canadian vendors for about $370-400, if it's indeed launching at around $199 USD then $370 CDN is a massive ripoff ($199 USD = $255ish CDN), I'd get one if it was $279-$329 CDN.

The versions you are looking at are probably 8GB versions (at least it seems like this is the case for most vendors out there).

The 8GB version would be about $240 (based on the newegg prices), which is equivalent to $305 CAD. Add 13% sales tax on top of this and you get $345 CAD. So no $370 is not really a massive ripoff, it's only 7% above the expected price, which is actually quite low for early pre-launch listings like these.

Comparisons to a GTX 970 isn't terribly interesting since Nvidia tends to do better in Witcher 3, especially with HairWorks on.

The more interesting question is how a 390/390X does at those settings.

fwiw, it's stupid to use hairworks on any GPU, nVidia or AMD. It crushes all performance, iirc.

Its a socialist country, like most of Europe. Someone has to pay for the free healthcare and education.

do get that crap out of here.

Nobody has too much hopes, but they are willing to wait for actual benchmarks before calling it a fail/win.

seems like logical thing to do.

Thank god because people have too much hopes from a $200 card.
Actually it was the voltage control that caught my attention and why i posted the link. (and bolded that part)

The potential overclocks debate i believe was beat to death well enough earlier in the thread, so I was ignoring that part.

there is no hairworks on those 480 videos in fact, he turn down many settings to high and some of post processing settings are off too. However, even a GTX 980 can handle Witcher 3 at max settings.

What resolution is that? The first video had hair works on. The video that came later hair works was off.

Ok I am behind in the thread but I am pretty convinced I need Crossfire 480 in my life. Would yall mind a few questions so I am ready to buy the second I can:

1. Do you think I can get by crossfiring 480s on a 600w PSU? (my CPU is a slightly OCed 2600k and for reference it eats 370 watts with my OCed 390x).

2. Since I know I want to do crossfire (maybe not immediately but for sure within six months) should I get the blower model that is better for crossfire? If so is there any hope it will be better than 290 blowers? I couldn't deal with another card as loud as my reference 290. One last thing I must say on this point is I plan to mine the card 24/7 for up to a year and I don't know if GPU warranties cover fans you nuke by doing that but I don't want a clack clack fan in two years time.

3. I might get a VR headset when it's obvious which one isn't 2016's betamax, but I will never game above 1080p on a 2D screen. Is there some reason I should shoot for 8GB models if for some reason we can buy both early on?

Thank you in advance for any answers.

1. assuming power usage scales with Xfer, what I have seen posted/assumed in this thread is that 2x 480s will consume nearly half what your 390X does. Max load seems to be ~110-120?

2. overclocker dude claimed that the reference blower on the 480 is really good, and since power consumption is so low, it is very effective and very quiet.

3. I think it has been confirmed through various sources that only the 8gb models will be available on release. So you want really have a choice there if you want one next week.

Curious as to why you want to do crossfire? Are you running 1440p or higher?

I believe NCIX had them listed at $350CAD+, and I'm assuming prices listed on their website are before taxes?

you still believe this troll?

1500 MHz isn't so impressive to be outside of the realm of possibility.

1500 MHz / 1266 MHz = ~1.185

An 18% OC on a card that's probably not using its full headroom is hardly that impressive. 1500 MHz on an AMD card just sounds like a lot more than it really is because their previous generation cards rarely had core clock speeds much beyond 1000 MHz. If the claims of ~110W power draw at stock clock is true, then 1500 MHz is close to within the 150W TDP power limit.

The real question is what % of cards will be able to hit that 1500 MHz level though. If it's a small number of silicon lottery winners, then it's not really useful information. If on the other hand a super-majority of cards, then it's useful for potential buyers who want to roll the dice instead of buying an AIB 480.

Given the repeated $300 upper price range on Polaris from AMD, it's not unreasonable to think that there's some bin of Polaris that can reach those levels, even if it's not what you can buy for $200-$230.
