Hope for the best (390X + 10% stock, 20-25% OC), expect the worse (390 stock, 10% OC).
If it arrives in between (390X stock, 15-20% OC), then at least it's not a disappointment.
That's the way I see it.
Pretty much. I still think there's a good chance that the public drivers the leakers are using do not support Polaris, and that it's getting fed a codepath for older versions of GCN that is providing suboptimal results. Driver optimizations can easily make a difference of 10% or so, with more to come down the line.
We also shouldn't discount the possibility that even if
average frame rates are on par with Hawaii,
minimum frame rates might be substantially better. A few leaks and rumors point in this direction, and while it's not certain by any means, it isn't out of the question. It would make sense for AMD to focus on this because frame rate consistency is very important for VR (a major focus of this card) and because a lot of gamers would rather get a consistent and smooth 60 FPS than an average of 65 FPS that can vary from 50-70 depending on scene.
