I hope they will have some benchmarks against how it would size up to my current card. Just want to know how much better it would be. Hopefully I find out tomorrow.

If I do end up buying one it will be aib anyway unless reviews mention reference cooler and design is fine.

Amazon needs to stop letting idiots write "reviews".

Not helpfulled all but the one that said he was lying.

Garbage reviews and the idiocy of the answered questions segment really annoys me. "How long is this cable?" "Well I don't have it or a ruler in front of me but I'd say it's about the length of my arm. Hope this helps!"

I haven't bought release day tech in a long time. Will this be a midnight release for online stores or even B&M's?

Also, will there be any difference between manufacturers in this case since they are all reference?

All the recent leaks point towards 390X class performance. I'm going to buy it anyway but it would be nice if it can overclock well!

I think the shocking truth hasn't sunk in for the anti-AMD posters yet. With only a 1266mhz clock and only 32 ROPs, the card is going to outperform a 56 ROP GTX970 that boosts to similar clocks. On the AMD side, a 32 ROP RX 480 trading blows or even beating a 64 ROP 384 GB/sec R9 390 is a great result since this is AMD's mainstream tier only!

Obviously each Polaris 10 ROP =!= R9 390/GTX 970 ROP, but that's exactly the point. For AMD to be able to pull off this level of performance with nearly HALF the theoretical pixel fill-rate of the GTX970 shows an excellent architectural improvement. OTOH, we know that Pascal's major benefits just come from improved L2 cache, 4th generation memory compression and lastly and most importantly the high GPU clocks from the 16nm shrink. When comparing max overclocked GTX 1080 to 980Ti, there is no indication of any major improvements in IPC whatsoever (stark contrast to what we saw with the move from Kepler to Maxwell). With AMD we are seeing major "Kepler -> Maxwell style" architectural improvements. Once AMD scales the Polaris 10 architecture to Vega, we will see a real upgrade to R9 390/390X and then Fury/Fury X.

Hawaii = 64 ROPs = 64 Pixels/Clock

Polaris 10 = 32 ROPs = 32 Pixels/Clock

New improved geometry/tessellation engines.

All reference models for now.

Is the $10 backplate on the XFX cards worth it? Also, does anyone know if they still have good warranty support?

I remember them having good warranties in the past, and right now I am looking to pick up two of them over the other brands because of those two things.

Using the Techpowerup 1440 summaries and rough prices as of a few days ago, the 480 is a ridiculous value if it comes in at 980 levels. It'll basically be the only thing to buy below $400 prices as of 6/28.

I mean, the two recommendations will be - buy a 480 4gb or a 480 8gb. And above that, the 1070 looks like a good deal (well, as good as it gets) where you'll get 40% more performance for 100% more money.

Of course, there will be price reductions. So the above is basically obsolete depending on how prices shake out. But I suspect people will complain loudly tomorrow that the 480 doesn't meet their made-up expectations and doesn't save them *enough* money.

I don't think the backplate is worth it, I only ordered it because it's what was in stock, I don't have to beat the rush anymore, and I prefer ordering from Amazon.

Also I will be getting rid of the backplate, I am mounting my ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme IV as soon as I get it.

Pretty optimistic, eh? I almost just pulled the trigger on Amazon but I really want to wait for the reviews. I also don't think we're going to see 1070/80-like shortages with this one.
Yea we might and those that do get them will be flooding eBay with them. But I want aib models anyways so looks like waiting another two weeks will have to do.

Even the worst case scenario is good enough. This is just a stop gap measure until Vega is out for me.. and then its getting relegated to my Lan box. Should be better than my gtx780.

Anyone have a friend at microcenter? I'd like to get a card from there. Will they be in stock I mean?

Probably gonna do the same, to be honest, but if performance is on the low end of expectations I might snag a 1070 instead.

Polaris:

Fiji:

Hawaii:

Hm... Two new Hardware Schedulers. These units did not show up on previous GCN block diagrams. Perhaps this suggests better DX11 performance relative to older GCN cards?

Such terrible technology retailers. I can sort of get best buy being late since they are more mainstream, but Frys is supposed to be in the microcenter tier of electronic stores, and it is so far beneath them.

Agreed, pretty disappointing from Frys.

For those interested in VR. Polaris is, on paper, better at it than Pascal.

It features both multi-view ports implementation of Pascal, but one-ups it with the inclusion of hardware Foveated rendering support.

If you do not know what that is, look it up.

NV likes to say Pascal is 2x better at VR than Maxwell with the multi-viewport feature, but Foveated rendering can be 5-10x faster.

No joke. It will be the next rendering standard for VR due to how accurately it simulates human eye visual perception, with the added bonus of massively increased performance.

For those confused about the 4 ACEs..

In GCN 3 (Tonga/Fiji), AMD improved some of the ACEs, 2 ACEs combined to become 1 HWS, which can function as both ACEs and a novel function. We later learnt this HWS is for virtualized workloads where it can be true user asynchronous operation. It still is equivalent to 2 ACEs.
