Something about this MSI 480 leak seems off

Someone speculating the Firestrike score image doesn't hold up to analysis

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/4npe43/speculation480_fire_strike_ultra_benchmark_could/

Something said in this thread sounded fishy to me as well

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/4noslj/rx480_leaksrumors_timeline_megathread/

Chiphell user responsible for the benchmarks claims it's an MSI 480 but he removed the shroud and replaced it with an MSI Lightning one to avoid getting in trouble for NDA violation

Because the 480 I don't think would be strong enough as I'm planning to get a 1440p monitor later. I also enjoy max settings most of the time. As of now I don't know if I would be able to do that with a single 480 and I don't ever plan on running two cards. Obviously Vega would be great but I don't want to wait that long.

I'm not a brand fan I buy what I feel would last me and let me play at high to max settings for a while. I've had this 7970gh for 5 years now.

Hopefully June 29th we will see what else there is available.
Nvidia cards are no god for long term as we have seen before. See how 680 is doing now... it's not even in the map compared to your 7970, even though it was the same speed at the beginning.

If you are planning to keep the card 5 years, I bet the 480 will be faster than 1070 way before the end.

If I were you, I would buy cheap 480 in couple of weeks when it comes out and play with it until vega comes out. I bet those will have better performance/price ratio as well compared to anything NV is offering. Is it so hard to sell used card and update more often, just wondering?

If you value your money and want long term support, you go AMD. If you upgrade often and want best speed regardless of the cost , you go nVidia.

Is there a possibility that the Polaris is not as good with DX12 as Hawaii?

According to the leak on the youtube video his version was 1080mhz core

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_qg2PITCts

It depends what means "good". Get the same boost from dx11? Probably not if the improvements they've made work as intended and the performance is great in dx11 as well. Right now you see improvement in older cards due to overhead being gone. However, if they improve upon async compute and compute is used more, that's a different matter. R290X=980ti in compute power, but games are not all compute, so they don't really go head to head.

Shocking isn't it D:

Anyway, the NDA will lift this week right? So all the BS & click bait articles will be shotlived, well hopefully, & we'll get out of this rabbit hole soon enough

Also may mean some AIO AIB options at $300 or a bit over, depending on if there is a more CU version of P10.

I'm assuming that AMD is talking cards they are releasing. It's not typical for the IHV's to set the pricing for the AIB's. Just because nVidia has tried to do it with GP104, it's not a normal thing.

If Vega 10 shows up at $550 +- $50 and beats 1080 by a decent margin it all comes down to when Nvidia thinks it will arrive. If it's 6 months from now will the majority of Nvidia enthusiast gamers be upset at initial 1000 series pricing, I doubt it. But every week sooner than 6 months or so means more and more angry customers.

From that perspective I think Nvidia's best guess is there might be a ~$300 Polaris model that can nip at the heels of 1070 and if so it will show up in the next 2-3 months. That AMD can beat or match 1080 no sooner than end of year. If AMD can do better than that then Nvidia will need to man all PR battle stations.

So the short direct answer is, no.

I was just making certain.

There will then be constant 1060 clickbait articles to wade through.

Then 1080ti/Vega then maybe a minor delay until they can dream of Volta
(Although the Titan/ti/Vega could well end up staggered over multiple months to keep them happy.....).

He retracted the claim for now, though.

That's way too low. Let's hope it is more than that, or we'll have low stock/out of stock problems within the first week, and no price pressure on nVidia so those wanting more performance can get a better deal.

I ran across a post on Reddit where a person who works in the Fab says he believes that AMD will have 177,000 chips ready on release day. That should be enough for a solid launch.

Hello Kind of eerie how fast word can travel. I usually don't comment much, but I'm just as excited for the future as everyone else. Yes, that # is (loosely) calculated by wafers shipped x average yield % from Fab 8. Although, I haven't heard anything about Ellesmere in Singapore or Dresden at all. Not saying they aren't doing excellent work. Cheers.

Don't suppose you know anything about the rumored RX490

If that's the best you can come up with, that's pretty mundane. Don't you think?
Not at all. I don't sit around and blindly trust amd or Nvidia. These companies aren't my friends. I don't have any love for Nvidia or amd at all not to mention any trust. I trust Nvidia just as much as I trust amd.

I don't know why you would say Nvidia isn't to be trusted and not give amd the same treatment...

Is this the card from the above pics? Would be cool if there is going to be a lightning 480. Or did he just swap the cooler on to it?

Supposedly he swapped coolers, which might explain the high temps.

Still not believing anything till I see reviews.

Swapping the cooler explanation is ridiculous. This is obviously fake. Why go trough all that trouble on a brand new card? Just don't take the photo of the card if you're worried about photographing the shroud. Bet this is 295 or another card. Don't believe this dude to be genuine in the slightest.

Where did I say anything that resembles what you are attributing here? Let me quote what I said.
Unfortunately everything nVidia says has to be verified by outside sources.

AMD not mentioned at all.

And as far as nVidia, who I did mention, I can't remember the last time they told the truth. That's why everything needs to be verified.

So what is going on? The new leaks showing RX480 faster than expected or what? Does the comparison performance-wise to Radeon 390 still stand?

BTW if it does, its sadly not as awesome as its made to look in regard to its apparent low price. The cheapest 390 over here (from Sapphire) is 315 EUROs. Granted there is Asus Strix for 509 too :-O Anyway, if it performs similarly, and the MSRP for 8GB version is 229 USD, i can see it being over here in Europe easily priced at 300 EUROs. At least, in light of recent pricing of Nvidia cards, when MSRP of 599 USD translates to cca 800 EUROs for GTX1080 and 379 to 500 for GTX1070.
