Fall 2017 (Scorpio) launch makes me think it might use Vega's updated GCN. If Radeon RX 480 is closer to 5 TFLOPS (AMD said 'more than 5 TFLOPs') then I think going with a larger Vega based custom GPU at sane clocks makes more sense to hit their 6 TFLOPS target.

I thought the 6 TFLOPs number was for the entire system, so it includes the CPU as well, which doesn't account for much but probably adds about .15 TFLOPs.

Polaris has just been listed at >5 TFLOPs, so they wouldn't need that much extra hardware on top of what you'd get with a 480 and you can always increase the clock speed as well, which by the time this thing needs to come out shouldn't be a problem as the process matures.

Nvidia is attempting to drive their prices up another $50 at each price point. ON TOP of that, they charged an extra $100 to get the card early.
That's an amazing business move at the high end.

What's amazing is that people bought it.

What's amazing is that people bought it.

Not so amazing really.

What you have known about the pricing structure of graphics cards all happened over the years when NVIDIA had 30-60% market share, and real competition from at least one other company, sometimes more.

This isn't true anymore.

NVIDIA is just doing what companies who have a great advantage in the market and no competition coming for months do- sell for whatever they want.

They could have sold 1080s for $800 and sold them all.

AMD would be doing the same if roles were reversed.

I remember paying $1000 for my FX CPUs (first gen).

SO your saying if you live in Europe you don't pay VAT? and you pay VAT if you buy from Europe and live in the U.S.?
I no nothing educate me. thanks.
or are you saying
that the price is 300$ + 60$ VAT tax in Europe?= 360$U.S.

is that why a gtx1070 is like 500$ over there?

In NZ there are no 1070's showing in stock. The only one listed is $781.84 NZD before the 15% GST ($900 NZD inclusive). That's $550 USD before tax. It's hard to compare pricing outside the USA.

I guess it's confirmed now, no $299 model. Apple took all the full (C10) chips.

Very disappointing for pc gamers.

I would much prefer to pay $299 and get an un-cut higher clocked part.

ps. 1070 are ~$749 to 799 AUD here, or ~$550 USD. It costs more than $500 USD 980 did so there's inflated pricing by some regions.

Even in a vacuum the price of the GP104 is too high. Anyone wants to buy it, let them. I just think they're crazy.

Yeah, as I was starting to suspect, if there was a $300 model we probably would have heard something by now. I think Lisa was being speaking in general about the price range they would cover, not that they would specifically have a $300 part. That doesn't mean we won't see aftermarket versions of the card that approach that amount, but I don't think we're going to see a larger, faster version of Polaris 10 that we haven't seen thus far.

I don't think this will be regular Polaris 10 XT. We are talking more than a year from now, and Vega is based on another iteration of GCN. Sony is rumoured to use a low clocked version of Polaris 10 XT at 911 MHZ for PS4 Neo, and I think MS will try to beat them on all paper specs. I wouldn't be surprised if they could pack 40 Vega-like CUs in Polaris 10 die size a year from now, probably at lower clocks and even more efficient than a near 1.3 GHZ P10 would be.

2304 GCN cores with 911 MHz? PS4.5 then might be much slower than Xbox Next. Because 2304 GCN cores with 911 MHz brings us to... 4.2 TFLOPs territory. Xbox Next is supposed to have 6 TFLOPs, and 320 GB/s which means: GDDR5X.

If it is based on Polaris, it must have more than 2304 GCN cores. So it again brings us back to the speculation about higher core count of the GPU itself...

When has AMD ever used he pricing of some future AIB card before? That's nVidia when they were trying to spin the FE tax. Since AMD has said $300 price point we should assume that they are going to be releasing a $300 Polaris (They did say $100 to $300 Polaris, didn't they?) card. Maybe not right away, but it's in the works.

Well I posted many months ago, this fabled full Polaris 10... is likely taken by Apple in a repeat of the Tonga situation.

Note the 285 came out, cut Tonga. Later refreshed into the 380, still cut Tonga. Then much later, the 380X reared it's head, finally full Tonga, once Apple's volume demands was met.

We know there's 3 Polaris 10 variants, C4, C7 and C10. This came from the same shipping manifest leak and it was spot on accurate for C4 and C7, including the SP counts so far.

If AMD is not releasing C10, it means the chips are going elsewhere. I can't think of another OEM that demands both the best SKU/binning as well as having high volume to take them all, besides Apple.

For those not understanding, the reason Apple wants the full chips is going more shaders at lower clocks achieves the best perf/w.

So indeed, this higher tier Polaris exist and may well be $299, but it will come later.

Remember last year when someone posted a picture of "fake" specs of Fury with HBM?

This exact picture:

Device ID : 67C8. It is from last year.

What is the Device for Polaris GPUS?

67C0, 67C1, 67C2, 67C4, 67C7, 67DF, 67C8, 67C9, 67CA, 67CC, 67CF
The f***?

The picture was leaked by the same guy that leaked information about RX 480.

This GPU is NOT Vega. It clearly has exactly the same DeviceID as Polaris family.

I suppose it was engineering sample.

Xbox Scorpio, 6Tflops GPU.

Pretty simple with 40 CU Polaris 10 @ 1.2ghz, or 36 CU @ 1.4ghz.

Note that both Xbox and PS4 next-gen will feature backwards compatibility and x86 and GCN allows them that.

Basically moving forward, consoles from MS/Sony are more PC-like, games will run on older consoles just fine like on PCs, but at lower resolution/fidelity.

I also expect AMD to profit more this time around because they can ask for a higher price on their custom APU, since they know how important backwards compatibility is to MS/Sony.

Btw, PS4K/Neo in the developers doc, is 36 CU Polaris 10 too.

Agreed. Apple notably takes the best chips of the new tech for them. No matter if is nVIDIA or AMD.

Right, and this applies to Polaris 11 as well.

So the RX 460 is very likely to be a cut Polaris 11 (1024/1280 SP), $99. ~50W gaming load.

Hence, AMD only launching 3 GPUs based on 2 chips.

If the leak of Polaris 11 Firestrike Extreme is true, it should be around 270X's performance.

I would force my sister to get one lol, the HD5830 I got her long time ago is loud, need a cool and quiet card and $99 is awesome.

Nobody is telling you how and when to spend your money, nor would anyone have that right, but this is a place where people discuss value of tech, exchange opinions, hence we justify choice.

If all everybody wanted was "the best", there would only be 1 thread per product cycle in this forum, and that thread would be locked.

Or how about you re-read the post that he was quoting hrm?
