Yeah, maybe it's possible. I also made an error in math. Gtx 1080 is 60% better than tx. Wow I hope full p10 is 48 cu that would be bonkers

Seems a bit over the top but if full P10 is 44-48 CU then there shouldn't be any problems for AMD supplying enough 480s given that degree of salvaging.

Still, I'm going to decline to board the hype train. Hawaii and Fiji had some mysterious tech forum CLOUDs of hype that seemed to be designed to lead people to feeling disappointed.

guys stop trying to hype me up I don't want to be disappointed like last year

It's speculation. Take it with caution.

You can be hyped about what we more or less know, and that's RX 480 bringing 980 to Fury performance down to the $200-230 price range at what will probably be 90-120w power consumption.

I'd replace my Tri-X 290 for the 8GB RX480, it could give me a chance to also change platform (using 2500k+P67) and rebuild with a micro atx motherboard, smaller case, smaller PSU, while keeping my IPS 23" 1080p display. I'm excited for 2016-2017 in terms of hardware.

If RX490 ends up along those lines of 44-48CUs at $300 or so, then I'd consider stretching to that and enjoy the extra performance. If full P10 is 40CU as speculated before, priced well could be an interesting card too. What fills the $300 bracket is sure to be faster than the RX480, by how much is the question.. I like how AMD has gone for the mainstream first.

I don't believe it either, but ... who knows?

Man, I hope the 480 MSI Lightning is real... But, uh, is it just me, or does it look just like the 780 Lightning? Might be fake.

Ooooo exciting. What is upper TDP of 6+8?

According to the internets, 6+8 would put it at 75+75+150=300W.
75w pcie, 75w 6 pin and 150w 8 pin.

BTW a lot these lightnings look pretty much the same.
The 290x also has a similar lightning model.

this model actually is 8+8+6

The guy from reddit who said the GPUs were sent to reviewers, and that there is bigger SKU than 36(48 to be precise) was correct about the GPUs been sent to reviewers.

People already have them.
Expect leaks.

6 pin is 75W, 8 pin 150W and you can draw more from the bus itself if necessary, but considering that the 480 is listed as a 150W part, even adding an 8-pin by itself would be pretty staggering.

It's hard to think that they'd need more than another 6-pin because typically a GPU isn't physically capable of handling that much of an additional power load above what its designed for. With good enough cooling, you can keep it from thermal throttling, but putting that much juice through it over an extended period is going to destroy the chip.

I'm trying to think of the last time I've seen a card go from a 6-pin configuration to a 6+8-pin configuration.

It would be adding second GPU to the package. Maybe this is dual Polaris 10?

P.S. This is only speculation.
