Slower than the GTX 970??? That looks like an official slide. Say it ain't so

Yeah pretty disappointing. Still if indicative of relative performance the RX480 is still best value for the buck even if 970 gets discounted to $200, but just not that exciting for me.

It says at "low power". Does that mean the card has a different power mode? Like what 290x had?

Whoever thought the RX 480 was close to the 980 Ti will be very disappointed when the official benchmarks are out.

The hype train is unreal and unfounded imo

The 220 USD 390x from frys is looking better by the minute.

either expectations too high or right now very low.
people need to chill. no one knows what rx 480 card was used in this test. there will be certainly various cards ranging from 1080mhz to >12xxmhz D:

What is going to be the next "must have" gpu? I liked how the Nano and 980 Ti trumped much of what existed when they came out. Is there anything we know about in the works that boasts as much?

That's a pretty good showing for the 470. Hopefully that SteamVR test for the 480 is just an outlier.

Looking at endnotes i noticed they said they tested on 16.1.1 version of the driver (the steam vr test). Other slides are using the 16.20 driver (for 480M and 470). Are they hiding something or are they just sloppy.

It's not quite what I was hoping, but it's certainly an upgrade for me.

Since these are release drivers, I'm sure we'll see some performance improvements over time.

Yea, RX 470 DX-12 performance/watt and perf/$ is exceptional.

Still it would be either 20% or 10% (with 10% higher frequency) better with GDDR5X, depending if they favour perf/Watt or performance respectively..

I find it odd that they use board TDP as the comparison. 270x does not draw 170 watts during actual usage. It usually draws 120-130 Watts, no? I wonder how much power the 470 actually draws... maybe 80-90 W?

Yeah the Overwatch score is very good (120fps vs 270x 76fps), puts it above R9 280x so hopefully good indicator DX11 performance is improved for 480.

If it is slower than a 390 then RTG should just fold; they don't have a point in existing.

why? it always depends on how much power the card draws...

In what universe does a 14nm FF 36CU lose to a 28nm 40CU part?

This would probably be the equivalent of the 1920 shaders GTX 1070 trading blows with the 2048 shaders GTX 980. Instead it does so with the 3072 shader card. Oops!

Performance per watt, really? Nvidia improved here too. Nothing for AMD to brag about other than saying "First!" in the price/performance/wattage segment, cause if somehow the 390 really is faster than the 480 then yeah, GP106 is going to have an easy time.

Unless this is way smaller than thought. Smaller than Pitcairn. RV670 size.

Or keep praying that it overclocks like a 7950. Or hope that these slides are lies for... some reason?

Ugh. What an embarrassment if accurate.

RX 470 already scores as high as a R9 290x Quiet mode in Firestrike Standard, is all looking good.
