Correct, I did my testing in game. However, since you mentioned it, I went ahead and and did the benchmark run with EDS disabled, and then set to 70%

The result on the right is with it disabled, and the one on the left is enabled @ 70%.

Nice work. Honestly I don't know why your results differ so much from what everyone else is reporting, but hey we'll soon be seeing actual reviews of the RX 480 so it doesn't really matter.

Not sure either? Anyway, I with you. I just made the video for fun, it's pretty much like someone said - Apples to oranges - I'm really excited for this card.

Wonder if it was cpu or gpu limited? That 6400 is clocked pretty low. Maybe it was just the video, but it seemed to be stuttering a few times even though the framerate looked good.

it is cpu limited. that is why more cores are needed for new games. i7 is a must for serious gamers.

Yeah he chooses odd settings for the hardware being tested in all his RX 480 vids.
In GTA V he shouldnt even be touching advanced settings with that hardware IMO.

For those who said they cared.
He redid the GTA V benchmark. (still on unofficial drivers I assume)
GTA 5 RX 480 + i5-6400 Benchmark

Those are odd settings indeed, as he cranks up the ones that hit the CPU hard.

I ran the same same settings on my 280x (2500k @ 4.3 GHz) and got better results than he did. AT least at the bottom end. My frames did not dip as low during the last scene with all the cars, but it looks like he was able to pull some max frames more often than I was.

He should have turned frame scaling mode on to put the GPU to work.

Also, the method he's using to record is probably putting even more load onto the CPU. I re-ran my GTAV benchmark but this time recorded it with Afterburner (uncompressed), and my framerate dropped significantly. My low end frames were pretty much matching his.

People in Youtube can be harsh. I've been doing benchmark videos for 10 years now.

Your vid was fine. I liked it. Thank you for the comparison.

I've seen this image of the VisionTek RX 480 box floating around a few places. Not sure if it's real or not, but it's definitely funny:

That's a pretty bold statement from RTG.

Delivering 90% of the performance for less than half the price?

Though this would be versus the 1070 rather than 1080.

Yeah, remember how everyone was saying AMD never made hype, we did it to ourselves? All they ever said was VR performance for cheap?

Welp so much for that.

The current leaks make it hard to believe that even just 480:1070 will be anywhere close to 4870:280. Of course we will find out in less than a week, but I'd rather not have the PR machine act this way. It actually makes it more likely to be slower based on jinxing.

Yeah that's true. Hype directly from a IHV makes people more inclined to believe the other way.

Remember, Pascal 10x faster than Maxwell... then 1080 2x faster than Titan X etc..

The latest leaker on youtube (goodgamingpc) mind you, he's not an established reviewer (no subs on his channel) who would have received the sample from AMD and under NDA. This also means he won't have access to Polaris launch drivers that the press are given.

Cards are already in retail shops and etailers. I've confirmed this with several big ones here. A worker at any of those places could get a card for his own use and testing. Hence the leaks keep coming.

Maybe they were just referring to these quotes from the article and no actual perf %?

We outlined AMD's "new" GPU strategy in our Radeon HD 4850 preview article, but in short AMD has committed to designing GPUs for the mainstream $199 - $299 segment and simply using CrossFire (multi-GPU) to address higher end markets. NVIDIA on the other hand will continue to make very large monolithic GPUs in order to continue to push the industry forward. Both approaches are appreciated and necessary, they simply target different markets.

When the smoke clears, AMD's strategy is to simply build a GPU for the masses and attempt to scale it up and down. While NVIDIA is still building its GPUs the same way it has for decades, starting very large and scaling down.

Any word on the quantity? It's all well and good that cards are ready for sale, but if they've only got a handful per shop it hardly matters.

The one that I intend to buy a few RX 480s from, has "large volumes of stock" last week. They are receiving shipments every few days since for the release.

There are some people who've said Nvidia has large volumes of stock as well.

I'll assume AMD has more chips if only because it's a smaller chip, but that's not saying much.
