Oh okay, instead of the paper spec boost clocks (should be known that NV's paper clocks don't match their real gaming clocks. Either way, 76mhz differential resulting instead of an OC 970 that BEATS at 980 in many of the games tested, it'll probably trade blows with a 980 then.

My point is they tested 3 games which runs better on NV, where a 390X would struggle vs a 980 anyway, and tested it against an OC 970 that is about 980 performance... so the only conclusion from this is that the RX 480 is actually performing around 390X levels. Whether that's better than 980 perf class or not, depends on the games.

Yeah I wound't be surprised if the actual boost clocks were close to 1380 MHz. My SSC boosts to 1411MHz and stays there right out of the box. That's why I like to see actual boost clocks reported by review sites, kind of like how AnandTech does it per individual game. The paper spec boost clocks are deceiving In my opinion.

I would still expect the Extreme to boost higher vs. the Omega though. Those games are pretty NVIDIA centric, so I'm hoping you're right.

GGPC on YouTube did post some videos and I made a pretty loose comparison against his GTA V PC run. This was without review drivers and it's not on the same platform, so it's not apples to apples. I would expect with the same platform and drivers, it should match or beat a GTX 970. This run was done with a sight 970 OC.

Exactly, the conclusion from that link is that the RX 480 likely performs around the 390x/980.

it's barely OCed

if a miniscule increase in performance is worth a 2 year wait, well, there might be a bit of bias on your part

Wait? What!?.... Oh, I get it. So you're one of those guys that own a GTX680 but look forward to "upgrading" to a GTX770; then, later on, "upgraded" to a GTX 960 and complained about no performance movement. I get it. You're one of those guys.

Reviews should be interesting. Probably start dropping late tonight?
Probably not until tomorrow. I wonder if anyone can post the most important links in the OP. I wont have time to check during work hours but I assume the discussion here won't change from what it's been.

According to Videocardz the NDA expires at 9AM Eastern. So we are looking at ~22 hours. But I wouldn't be surprised to see something an hour earlier in Europe due to CEST (European equivalent of DST in the USA) confusing someone

A dedicated review thread would probably be best.

oh well, it seems that a 2 year old mainstream card (GTX 970) spanks the overhyped RX 480 in nearly every scenario. So much for >R9 390X performance.

Considering Radeon R9 390X (only 5 MHz above 'stock' but Sapphire calls Tri-X 'OC') almost matches a custom Gefore GTX 970 that boosts over 1.3GHz, those results are disappointing.

Again, waiting for final reviews but I'm not happy with what I saw so far.

Not a huge improvement from Tonga in some tests either:

You are unhappy that is isn't way faster than Tonga in three games that are notorious for being poor performers with AMD cards?

Maybe it's just me....The constant morphing of your thread title adds to the confusion. I tend to look at the 1st post and then read the end users comments. When the title is morphed the comments no longer match the topic of the day. Maybe it's the wrong way to look at it? I'd imagine many will be linked thru Google and will be somewhat puzzled by comments.

Yeah, imho it would be best to leave this as-is and use the new thread for reviews.

Talking about reviews, I'm curious to know your last minute expectations. Let's use TPU's 1440p chart as reference. Where do you think stock Radeon RX 480 will end up?
