Huh, Diamond is still around?

LOL.

BTW, I am curious, do you work for Diamond? I just find it odd that this is your first post.
You think

Just looking at some of the pics above it does seem like there's a fair bit of stock that AMD has made available for day 1 launch, they'll need to sell quite a few before the 1060 hits cause of Nvidia's marketing blitzkrieg.

Welp, if the shader efficiency improvement is true and it still loses/ties a 390X, then looks like we got another unbalanced design?

Where is the ROP defender guy again?

Or maybe AMD just exaggerated about shader efficiency.

We'll discover true performance tomorrow, but probably not answers to all of our questions.

Just trying to be logical here. From what we know the two important design specs were VR level performance and price. So, considering that this is likely the best balance to achieve it.

For those interested in VR. Polaris is, on paper, better at it than Pascal.

It features both multi-view ports implementation of Pascal, but one-ups it with the inclusion of hardware Foveated rendering support.

If you do not know what that is, look it up.

NV likes to say Pascal is 2x better at VR than Maxwell with the multi-viewport feature, but Foveated rendering can be 5-10x faster.

No joke. It will be the next rendering standard for VR due to how accurately it simulates human eye visual perception, with the added bonus of massively increased performance.

From that slide we can only tell it only supports what GCN already supports: assign a different viewport to each polygon, which doesn't allow to do things in one pass since polygons can straddle multiple viewports. This is worse than Maxwell!

The 9 viewports method is simply AMD catching up with Maxwell VRWorks feature, but not quite since it seems it still only support 1 viewport per triangle. Also viewports don't allow to do stereo rendering in one pass without using geometry shaders (slow on GCN) or sending geometry twice to the GPU. Only Pascal supports that at the moment or at as far as we can tell from that single slide. So no, they haven't catched up one bit on the HW VR front, perhaps on the SW front..

Rx480 8gb $230
rx480 4gb $200
rx480 2gb $180
rx480 1gb $160
We know that 8gb and 4gb cards are releasing today but what about the 2gb and 1gb cards?

At least a launch date for RX 470 tomorrow or I riot.

Or at least go back into hibernation.

Joking about your low post count before now. Looks like you might have doubled it today.

Seriously though, there were "assumptions" by some people that spread that it would be a multi card launch. All AMD said though was the 480.

Didn't you have your morning coffee/chai yet? Why would AMD release any card, sans GDDR5, with 1GB VRAM but more importantly would anyone buy it :hmm:

Just joking.Anyway are you from India too? Because pricing is going to be very inflated over here.20k for 4gb and 25k for 8gb.RX470 will be the real value for money card if priced at 15k.

So short version, AMD fixed their tessellation. Guess that will be a non issue from now on, except for owners of older cards

Nope, it is not fixed. It is hacked.

I have to say, they are cheating their way through the obscene cheating with polygon counts in heavy tessellated backstab games.

The end visual effect aside, GPU is not doing the work it was supposed to do. it is cheating.

You seem to have misunderstand the entire VR change with pascal. It got a lot more than what you think. And with 470 not being VR ready at all, it says it all. AMD is far behind here.

But it is the same thing nvidia has been doing for tessellation as well...?!

It appears that after AMD changed the naming convention and introduced the Fury line, RX480 is AMD's 3rd tier product line.

This is how the current gen is shaping up:

Polaris 11/10 = RX 470/480 will compete against GTX1050/1060/1060Ti
Vega 10 = RX 490/490X (?) will compete against GTX 1070/1080
Vega 11 = Fury / Fury X successors should compete against Big Pascal

This means AMD should have 2 more tiers (i.e., 2 completely different segments) above the RX 480. This of course will mean $329->$499 tier with the rumoured Vega 10 (this will be RX 490/490X style cards, direct replacements for R9 390) and then there will be Fury/Fury X replacements with the rumoured Vega 11.

Hey Rus, isn't Vega 10 the big chip (meant for Fury) and Vega 11 the smaller one (meant for RX 490) ?

is it? I don't think so. Their hardware does tessellation faster. Now amd wants to fight this with a cheat and skip tessellation which has no visual impact.

You think you understand it better when no VR games even use paper spec features of Pascal? lol

2x potential with Pascal's VR hardware feature. Polaris is 10x potential.

I am not even making this up, because it does sound like a major case of "too good to be true", but here it's actually true. Go do a bit of reading on Foveated rendering.

So you are buying it as a sidegrade but to get better perf/watt?

No, I am upgrading from a 290X 4GB to a 8GB 390X performance class with 2.5x better perf/w while making a profit to buy a cheap Steam game in the process.

I may setup a big Eth mining operation, the perf/w will make a lot of sense when it directly relates to profitability. AUS has similar kWh $ as Denmark, ridiculous 0.25 USD per kWh.
