Holy Stuff Batman! Look at that inventory balloon!

Of course it wouldnt touch your mind that they must
have much higher inventory due to MS and Sony , they
just cant take the risk to provide an erratic supply to such
customers....

I'm betting you are as wrong as usual. Let's wait for the call and we'll see where that inventory is.

I let other people decide who is the most error
prone betwen us .

Aha, new GPU's I hadn't thought about that.

And they decided....

Whole exchange to be posted for posterity...

This is a far better balance sheet than Greece or the USA.

It gives the impression of beeing in the green. Unlike 20 years of nearly unbroken deficit.
The debt is only higher than a quarters revenue not a years gnp
There is a future strategy that is very risky but at least there is a plan
All is on coffee not some freaks on a Tea party

If someone buys US bonds, surely some gamblers will find it attractive with this more safe semi Russian roulette.

Did anyone notice that their PC division lost revenue from last quarter, but *increased* profits? How did they manage to do that?

With the console business. What we saw in Q3 with the CPU division is a remake of what happens when Intel launches a new CPU. Again, they lost share. If history will repeat itself again they will have another drop in Q4, this time pressured by the rest of the Haswell line up. And then bay trail that will compete against kabini and temash.

I've been out celebrating with my gf tonight, can anyone summarise what happened?

It looks like they've ditched PC and gone all in on consoles. While that was always an option it still seems a bit crazy. I mean sure give me hell for saying PC's would be good but I don't remember any paid analyst saying they'd do this.

Consoles are clearly paying for now and next quarter, but that won't keep them going in the first half of next year.

I like the shift and the numbers are better than expected, but the full year viability of this strategy would have me quite concerned if that's what they are doing.

Any news on Kaveri?

No. Consoles aren't in the PC division.

I find it very difficult to read those results be it Intel or amd because the details behind the numbers hide nearly all. But this time one thing is sure:
Amd semi custom strategy is working big time. The consoles is starting to kick.
Without it they would be next to dead and certainly without any busimess perspective.

Hats off for rr and the rest of the team. It might not work and fail, but at least its a solid try.

Remember AMD also sold there Singapore facility this quarter. It added $46 Million to there books this quarter. Take that out of the equation and the quarter was pretty much nonprofitable. They did the same thing previous quarter when they sold the Texas facility. It's not sustainable to sell off assets for immediate revenue because you'll eventually run out of assets to sell and your operating expense goes up in the long term from having to lease the facility back.

FX line is dead.
Continuing to lose share in Desktop/Notebook/Datacenter.

AMD as the x86 CPU company we knew is gone.

Sounds like a good thing to me, considering now they are making money. RR's conservative planning looks to be just what the company needed.

So, not much hope for a SR "big core" CPU on AM3+? Was it ever in the planning stages?

There are two ways to look at it. Let's look at the GPU scenario.

1) AMD has given up trying to beat Nvidia - they are just seeing out their end days hoping for a buyer that isn't coming. They just can't compete with the glory of Nvidia, and withdrew from competing in the high-end.

Jk...Mantle LOL.

#2 coming soon.

Oh, I mean your knowledge of finances.

Is that a joke? You, complaining about someone else's knowledge in finance, and just below a post exposing another one of your bluffs/mispredictions? Or did you conveniently forget what you were saying about console margins?

I remember Mr. SiliconWars telling us that AMD had beat intel in some key PC metric earlier this week in a vague manner. PC shipments or something like that? So what was up with that? Should I dig that post of his up?

I think I know the answer. I am just curious though.

Although I am curious also, I don't think an answer is going to be forthcoming.

I'd love to see AMD quickly throw in the towel completely on x86 big core and go all in on mobile and custom. They need to power into mobile in a hurry if they're ever gonna be a player. And because of their current predicament, they can actually beat Intel to the punch.

It would depend on whether they plan on bringing it to servers. If not then there is no chance of an AM3+ release.

I don't think we'll see an AMD cpu without a gpu on the same die ever again.
