Glad to hear Newegg was willing to work with you. Be sure to let us know your impressions of the card when it arrives

Second Fury X arrived today.

Old pump with an even louder pump whine. AMD suck

So to sum up, Not only did I have serious issue with getting the first unit returned and out of my own pocket I might add. The second card has the same issue, and it was ordered 2 weeks later!

AMD can down play this issue as much as they want. Their latest and greatest product is a complete nightmare, but more importantly, their attitude towards their customers is dreadful and a clear sign they just don't care.

Not a single bit of help has been offered from AMD throughout this mess, and honestly can't understand how they can be so careless about an issue like this. I have disliked Nvidia's practices for the past few years now, but if AMD don't give a shit about their customers and release dodgy products. It's impossible too defend them.

This to me is not iPhone 4 bad, but Apple Maps bad (hope people get the reference)

This isn't me ranting anger, as much as it's true sadness, as I was really hoping AMD were going to bring it.

Have you been working with the retail outlet or the manufacturer of your card?

If its the retailer, they will just send you whatever is in stock, which is most likely all first batch stuff that has been returned by somebody else.

I would suggest calling the manufacturer, as thats whom AMD said they would be working with to get old pump models replaced.

Both cards were purchased from different retailers.

The first card was a Sapphire, and their support was god awful and it took over a week to be told it would take weeks to get a replacement unit. I simply couldn't use that card for that long as the issue gave me a headache after about 30 minutes.

That card is going back to the retailer for a refund.

The second card is a Gigabyte and was bought on Friday. It just showed up in stock on caseking.de. It's doubtful that caseking.de would send out previously opened stock, as it would be fairly obvious and it's against EU law.

I contacted gigabyte directly and the basically send it would take weeks to do anything and they actually don't replace items and only repair them, unless they can't repair. Plus, they said i would have cover the costs of shipping it too them.

AMD clearly don't care and are just waiting for the cards to end up places where the users can hear the issue, and aren't actually doing anything to help.

I've now decided to sent back my 3rd Fury X aswell and get a Fury by Sapphire instead. It's an air cooler, but the review by Computerbase suggests that is by far quieter than the Fury X.

Seriously annoyed by now how AMD handles this situation.

why send it back? i thought you had the good pump/squealing noises gone.

well, unless maybe there still were pump whine after all?

and yeah, the sapphire Fury is definitely a lot quieter according to anandtech review as well.

There is some weird resonance frequency happening since 2 days now, 1 at the fan, 1 at the pump itself and it's driving me crazy. Plus the fan is rattling again at different speeds.

Also about pump noise, it's still there, it is just not as audible, but it's still there and i have the feeling it rises with water temperature.

Now thinking of it i could just slap the Fury Cooler on the Fury X and sell the Fury+Fury X Cooler. Would anyone being interested in that? lol

Pure FUD.

We have received feedback that during open bench testing a small number of Fury X cards emit a sound from the high speed liquid cooling pump that, while not loud, is bothersome to some users. While the vast majority of initial Fury X owners report remarkably quiet operation, we take this feedback seriously, as AMD’s mission is to always deliver the best possible experience to our Radeon customers.

AMD Radeon R9 Fury X customers demand and deserve the best, so adjustments in the sound baffling adhesive compound were applied in the assembly of the high speed cooling pump to address the specific sound a few end users experienced as problematic. This improved the acoustic profile of the pump, and repeat testing shows the specific pitch/sound in question was largely reduced through adjustments to the sound-baffling adhesive compound in the pump.

AMD will work with its graphic card partners to ensure the satisfaction of the small number of initial customers who observed this specific sound and experienced it as bothersome. AMD is confident that on-going production of Radeon R9 Fury X product reduces the specific sound in question, but this is also a highly subjective matter with wide differences in PC case builds and room acoustics.

The AMD Radeon™ R9 Fury X radiator fan is near silent, and this makes any sound from the high-speed pump more noticeable to some end users, especially during open bench testing. Thus although the overall sound levels are remarkably low for an enthusiast product, AMD has worked to reduce the specific sound that some customers report as bothersome.

I wouldn't accept it. I'd return it, just like all of the cards with coil whine.

AMD also said that it was an overclocker's dream so we can't take what AMD says at face value. As a previous owner of a bad Fury X, I haven't spoken with anyone yet who has one they are happy with even up to 3 RMA's.

I am going to wait for a few months until all these are out of the channel as I would still like to buy one but not playing the RMA game right now.

So now I will be using my gift card to buy a R9 Fury when it launches tomorrow instead. Particularly the Sapphire version..that one had some sweet dB levels on anandtech's review.

cheers everyone...

I assume you finally got the card?
How is it working out for you now?

Out for delivery today. I ordered on 7/14/15, Newegg did not ship out until 7/15/15, and it is coming today, 7/17/15. This is because i ordered the cheapest, slowest shipping from newegg.

upsps guy doesn't come until around 4:30pm - 6pm PST time for me, so it'll be a while. probably give me impressions tonight or tomorrow.

Got my Sapphire R9 Fury Tri-X OC today...and it is the quietest GPU I have EVER owned! (only ever had air cooled computers)

Absolutely silent at idle (and NO WHINE ). At load, never surpasses 75 degrees C in Witcher 3 (2560x1440, FreeSync enabled, all max settings (except SSAO + Hairworks off)...and this is in a hot, non-AC room in Southern California on a hot day like today. I'm sure in normal weather the temps would be a lot lower.

In fact, the card is so silent at load, that my case fans are louder than the GPU (this is a first for me...)! Yes, it's so quiet that it is making me alter my fan curve profile so that my case fans will be as quiet as the GPU at load..unbelievable .

The Sapphire R9 Radeon Fury Tri-X BARELY fit in my SilverStone RV02-E:

It is exactly 12 inches long:

Size comparison, HIS R9 280X(old card) vs Sapphire R9 Fury Tri-X OC(new card):

Final Look:

Overall, this card has far exceeded my expectations of how quiet a GPU is. And I live in a very quiet room with no ambient noise (I have no machines or anything else in my bedroom, which is where the computer is). The Sapphire R9 Radeon Fury Tri-X OC has probably spoiled me greatly because now all my future cards need to be at least this silent! GOOD JOB Sapphire!

^ nice, thanks for posting the pictures. This seems like the card to get if you don't want to spend $650+ on a GTX 980 ti.

He was whining about pump whine.. then RMA'ed it, then whined some more on the replacement whine... and finally on the last RMA, got the air-cooled beast you see there, and now, he whines about no whine!

heh, just messing with ya darkserith, thanks for the update!

They are not priced same, isn't? So did you return 1st one and got tri-x? Or did the retailer refunded partially through store credit and sorts.

Newegg, the place i bought the Fury X from, does not do refund on GPU they sell. They only do replacement..well UNLESS they are out of stock. And for some reason, they were never out of stock on the SAPPHIRE R9 Fury X (even though there webpage said OUT OF STOCK) So they wanted to replace my Fury X again, for the third time. So i said screw it, and Newegg gave me store credit as a "one time exception" after i told them i really don't want to get a third fury x because 2 times bad means 3 times bad, i don't have time for this crap.

The awesome thing though, is that this time, I was able to use a 20 dollar gift card that I received from buying a MG279Q asus monitor combined with a 10% Student Discount (Max 20 dollars off) when I bought my R9 Fury Tri-X OC. So I got a good deal on this one, compared to my original purchase of the Fury X when I didnt use any discounts.

So I have some store credit remaining on the gift card i receive from newegg since the fury x was more expensive than the r9 fury.

5-10% less performance(according to official reviews, but I don't think I've noticed the performance difference, not yet at least), oh well...but quite a bit cheaper and a HELL of a lot quieter! no pump, no whine noise! it's like stepping out of a room of screaming babies
