Why the need to post so early?
We know we still got more than 24 hours...

*edit, what, nobody started the "Vega RX 64 & 56 buyer's club" yet?

Can we just lock this then and then reopen when it's ready?
I 100% agree with Elixer, I just don't see why we need to rush this.
Take it slow.... We've had all this foreplay now, can't we do a little more?

While I'm not expecting much, would be super interesting to see AMD pull a rabbit out of a hat. But with how long this thing has been in development, that rabbit most likely dead by this point.

There is no magical drivers, at best I think we can maybe expect a 5% uplift in performance over what the Vega FE was doing with those drivers.

If we do see 5% uplift in performance that would put it 5% faster in most games than the GTX 1080 which would be good, but meaningless regardless. They waited and waited and it took them OVER a year to produce a GPU that is equal to the GTX 1080 at higher the power consumption and has regressed in terms of DX12 and Vulkan performance.

The RX 580 8GB when OC'ed comes close to the GTX 1070 in games like Sniper Elite 4, Doom, The Division(actual gameplay), etc... while according to Vega FE benches in DX12 titles its not actually universally faster than the 1080, in fact in games like Hitman, SE4, etc... it actually loses by few frames per second.

I think the fact that they worked on two separate architectures actually hurt them, GCN 4 Polaris was really good architecture, if they actually took their full time with it and upscaled it, they would have released a competitive product in Q3 2016 to the GTX 1070 and 1080.

So like, do review leaks go in this thread?

Because the review leaks were just blown up for Vega 56.
Videocardz has them.

I'm really hoping for an in depth dive into the architecture and the development history.

This thread really exists for one reason... OP trying to be the creator of a mega-thread, become famous and get all the ladies.
He may get ladies but he's doing this because we're going to lock the other Vega threads when it (gaming) launches. Now quit clogging up the thread and wait for the embargo to pass.

No, its only GPU consumption

Worst ATI/AMD arch ever

Welps, the first leak looks awful, tomorrow is going to be fun. If the Liquid is using all that juice to barely beat a most likely throttling 1080 FE, once custom cards are thrown into the mix, it's basically lights out. Someone else pointed out the driver listed is a Beta driver, or something, over at Reddit. So, there is always hope, or something.

This is the final AMD driver that AMD sent, It's in a beta phase, waiting WHQL certification.

Yeah, that first review/leak is not looking so good. Custom 1080 is going to embarrass the more expensive liquid cooled Vega 64. Those power consumption numbers are ridiculous. The watercooled version is only available with the stupid bundles too. That's GTX 1080 Ti territory. AMD has got some brass balls.

With that power consumption, it's easy to see why AMD used such an insanely overkill VRM on the reference Vega card.

How could it go so wrong, I don't know. This is even worse than R600. You could already see the train wreck with Vega FE... There was some hope of improved performance for the gaming version because of comments here and there at B3D that Vega FE had disabled performance improving features like the TBDR and some more... yet they certainly don't help much here.

At least Vega does very well in pro apps and is supposed to be a compute monster. It's just that the jack of all trades profile GCN had when introduced just isn't there anymore vs the competition, nV doing specific architectural variants for their gaming and HPC GPUs (apart from having superior perf/w) really pays off here.

Its performance would be okay if power consumption didn't get so out of hand, and the 1080Ti didn't exist.. Poor Vega... It's the marketing that pisses me off. If you've got a turd you do not do campaigns like poor Volta or make some noise. Market your turd on its own merits (which it has, actually). RTG what is wrong with you?

I understand there was little budget to work with, it was better to have a great product (Ryzen/TR/Epyc) than to have two mediocre ones to finally kill AMD. But still, it is what it is. Which one would you say is worse? NV30, R600, or Vega? GV106 is going to make a joke out of this, at least for gaming... not to mention GV104 and GV102.

At least there's balance again in the CPU side of things. One step at a time.. with more cash coming in to make Navi better (as much as it's already set in stone at this point), maybe we'll get the GPU market back to balance in the future.

If priced properly, and with driver refinement/CF profiles, AMD could take the lead back with Vega CF. For a high end system, and possibly still saving some cash on the GPUs, this could make sense, if done properly. 3x vega could outperform 2x 1080Ti for similar price, remember CF is generally better than SLI recently. We will have to see, it will come down to drivers/price to determine if Vega is competitive.

imo Vega is the worst GPU architecture ever. It has regressed from Fiji in every aspect - perf/sq mm , perf/watt and looks like even perf/clock. I have never seen such a bad GPU failure from AMD or Nvidia in 2 decades of PC GPUs.
