And if I use clockblocker then the GPU usage cuts in and decreases. This is in Rise of the Tomb Raider. The lowest FPS is when I examine relics???? A still screen???

Does no one actually read the patch notes?

"Power Efficiency Toggle: A new feature introduced in the Radeon™ Settings Gaming tab for select AMD Radeon™ 300 series and AMD Radeon™ Fury X available under "Global Options". This allows the user to disable some power efficiency optimizations."

Pretty clear this option is not available for the 7xxx series or the 2xx series.

The power efficiency toggle is much needed for Fury X owners. I would get occasional screen corruption just sitting at the desktop from the clocks dropping too low and in many games, the clocks would constantly fluctuate even if the GPU was fully loaded causing erratic performance. I have set this to globally off now and it has fixed both of the issues. I was getting around it before by using Asus GPU tweak but I had to force 3dclocks at all times to get it around it using that.

Considering there isn't a real reason why the 290/290x shouldn't have the feature, it's probably possible to hack it in there. It's just whether someone will continually do it for each driver.

Eventually, the 4K VSR hack was removed/not working for the 290/290x

Eventually, even if this is hacked in for the 200 series it may be removed later. Irritates me again, though.

Didn't see that. Strange that it still has the toggle visible yet non-functional for 7xxxx series owners. Such a tease.

Asinine post with asinine reply.

My response may have been a bit rude, but I would not call it asinine. There were several posts in a row lamenting the feature not working on 290/7950 boards. Directly after someone else had specifically quoted the patch notes on this specific feature.

My apologies for the rudeness, but not the message. Patch notes take a few minutes to read and would have answered those questions.

I'm still not sure why you feel the need to defend yourself against something that clearly did not apply to you.

I won't respond further as I suspect it will earn an infraction. Have a nice day.

Isn't the reason the 200/7000 series don't have the Power Efficiency toggle because they weren't effected by the "down-clocking bug" like the 300 series were because the 300 series uses a more aggressive power management?
AMD : The Radeon R9 390 and 390X Aren’t Rebadges – New Power Management uArch, Higher Bandwidth and 8GB vRAM

So toggling the setting to OFF on a R9 390x/390 just basically sets the Power Efficiency to match the 290/290x series default settings....or am i misunderstanding this?
It would explain why the toggle is available for the 300 series and not the 200 series...because it isn't needed for the 200 series.(ie: It's already OFF for the 200 series)

3) Complete re-write of the GPUs power management micro-architecture
· Under “worse case” power virus applications, the 390 and 390X have a similar power envelope to 290X
· Under “typical” gaming loads, power is expected to be lower than 290X while performance is increased”

Yeah I dunno, I've never had an issue with my 290. I also haven't flashed any custom bios or anything else people do

Games like WOW have had issues with cards downclocking in the past, I remember seeing that with Nvidia cards so maybe its a game issue?

Who knows, so many variables (monitors, games, settings, gpus, bios, drivers, 3rd party software).

According to the associated documentation this update doesn't support my hd6970m so I'm stuck at 16.2.1 for now.

For some reason my temps dropped 8-10C with driver on my Nitro Fury. Ambient temps are the same, and fan speed did not increase. When bench marking, I got a small fps boost, and 3dMark scores increased just slightly.

Installed this tonight. It does seem that when gaming things run about 10 degrees cooler than before while idle temps remain constant, but it seems unstable and is doing some weird things with WinSAT that I never saw before this.

Not approved for mining! At least with 290.

Ya I have heard about that, I am still using 16.2 on both my systems, glad I did not go to 16.3 yet.

I had a few crashes when exiting GW2 last night. I'm hoping it was the Origin overlay. I will have to test more this afternoon.

It's in the main Origin settings. I turned it off, and it stopped the crashing so far.

Oh you must mean PvZ Garden Warfare 2... I was thinking Guild Wars 2 and was wondering why you'd have it running through Origin.

Can't play with Crossfire on in The Division due to the terrible flickering. I do get solid scaling though. Hope this is resolved in the next one, since they noted it on the known issues list
