Catalyst 7.1 includes Crossfire enhancements that enable the Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR) Crossfire rendering mode by default, enabling performance benefits for all AFR compatible applications immediately (including newly released applications that have not been officially profiled for Crossfire). Future Catalyst releases will add further Crossfire performance gains once new applications have been profiled specifically for Crossfire. Please note that applications already profiled for AFR will not see any performance benefits from this feature.

Unlike SLI, users will get a benefit from Crossfire from a title that is new and doesnt have a profile now.

Unless you are running a far outdated card, it is always good to have the latest drivers (Linux being the obvious exception to this).

I'm pretty sure you can force SLI at the global level; if you can't it's trivial to add your own profile.

Yes, SLI can be forced globally (not that this is a recommended practice). Back from holiday and straight into the trolling Ackmed? What a suprise...

That part was totally unnecessary in a Catalyst Driver Release thread. Please, stay on topic. Don't instigate any useless arguments.

Figures they would release a new set of drivers the day after I format my HD. Couldn't have had them ready for a clean install, now I have to clean out the old ones.. Meh.

No its not. Its a new feature in the drivers. And to me something NV needs to add to SLI.

Heh, same thing happened to me. I formatted yesterday morning, then these came out a few hours afterwards. I was going to hold off, but just figured Id go ahead. Doesnt matter much, more of an annoyance than anything.

Ok, this is really odd. I updated from 6.11 to 7.1 yesterday and I noticed this too. Idle temp went from 38°C to 46°C (I have an Accelero X2 at 100% full time via a BIOS mod). What gives?

My temp is the same, with a single X1900XT. I was at 56C, uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted, and its now at 57C. Idle temp obviously. I did see on another forum where someones temp rose though, perhaps a bug of some sorts? I wouldnt worry though.

Why does it need to be added to SLI Ackmed?

With nvidia drivers we are not limited to the profiles that nvidia provides us with - we can freely create our own and configure said profile any way we see fit - including SLI rendering methods.

Having a global SLI profile is stupid because not all games will use that SLI rendering method.

Oh, and it was YOU that started the nonsense as several people have already pointed out. Why don't you go back on holiday or whatever it was you were doing? We didn't miss you...

Because not everyone knows the best profile to make, or even how to make one. There are a lot of users who buy a new OEM PC, that dont have a clue how to. Having a default method that enables SLI for any game, without the user having to do anything, is a good thing to me. As well as making sure it works with any game, without having to make a profile. To me, thats an advantage, as to many others it is. Do you even have an ATI card, or Crossfire...

I didnt start nonesense, I stated a fact. It wasnt 100% pro-NV like you like a post to me, and you didnt like it. Brent Justice stated the same thing. Go tell him he is stupid for saying the same thing.

You think I missed you? You responded to my post, as always. Not the other way around. You always respond to me, not me to you. I wasnt on a holiday, how many holidays are three months long? *sigh*
