Alright, so we've had some leaks so far. I don't know if any of it's been confirmed yet, as it's pretty early, but here is what I've surmised so far (massive grain of salt of course):

If if turns out to have RDNA 2 and 12 CU, I could see iGPU performance potentially almost doubling over Cezanne.

If I've made any mistakes or gotten anything wrong, please let me know. I'd also love to hear more knowledgeable people weigh in on their expectations.

same here-with exactly the specs i am looking for at that price it certainly is tempting but i know i need the bigger screen so would regret doing so. my current 4500U is 14" and a bit too small for my taste since i plan on gaming on it.
I pulled the trigger. My old one was a core 2 duo I5 something. The battery is shot. All I use it for is reading email and this forum when I am on vacation and in the hospital (which is many times a year). The smaller size may be hard but mine is just too old. (It came out in 2009)

Great upgrade! Should be much easier to carry around. You will love it!
The old one is a PROBOOK 4540S, and its an I5 something. It came out in 2009. But I bought it in 2014 when I had my second open heart surgury. It still works, but you have to plug in the AC adapter for a few minutes before it will post. I don't think I replaced it too early., even though I hardly ever use it.

cool-congrats. 2009! no wonder you decided to upgrade. i have not ever had a laptop for over 5 years. just the SSD will make your new laptop night & day over your current one. my 4500u already works great for most things so i'm only looking to upgrade for gaming purposes sorry to hear about your ongoing health issues btw.

for some reason it also only has a 256 GB SSD while i am looking for 512.
The rest of the laptop looks pretty solid. It's a Thinkpad so the SSD should be more easily upgradable than the typical laptop. If you really want something now, wait only if you are sure that a better deal may come along soon. Otherwise, I say pull the trigger. Better be happy today than be sad and regretful tomorrow.

Has anyone seen any models with the 6980hs?

There s an ultra overpriced Asus with a 6980HX available in Germany, dunno for other parts of the world.

If anything this tell that more affordable models using 6980HS/HX will keep being highly priced for the year to come.

Yeah, I am specifically wondering about the HS because of how well binned it appears to be. 35W for 3.3-5ghz. I am surprised there hasn’t been at least 1 laptop shipping with this chip. I would love to see a 6980hs and 6800s combo!

i looked at the one review for this which claimed that these are only shipping with the smaller battery too & i did not see a USB 4.0 port either. i am hoping that there will be some 6800U options from HP, Lenovo or Acer which include everything i am looking for will be out by the winter holidays. i would think the prices may be lower by then also.

If it can 2 drives in the laptop go mechanical for archives and SSD for main drive. Access and write times on the SSD make all the difference, so only the best for it. Getting a cheap SSD will only bite you in the ass.

Read the previous replies,,, I got it.
Congrats on your new laptop. Which one did you buy

I ended getting an HP envy 13" convert with a 5800U. Couldn't wait.
This a little gem, not perfect but a little gem nonetheless.

6800U should be even better.

Based on
performance gain in 6 series is not spectacular but it should be lot more efficient. Still 5 series are quite efficient on their own. Next big bump should be 7 series on TSMC 4.But you may have to wait an year to get one.

Another great deal for 6800u laptop. https://slickdeals.net/f/15883963-l...f-s?p=156036256&comment=success#post156036256

ticks all boxes. Good screen and fast memory/ssd as well. Plus thinkbook have good build quality with USB4 port as well.

Review (primarily of the APU/iGPU, includes eGPU over USB4 testing) of this model up by ETA Prime just popped up:

Was wondering why no reviews out yet and then BAM, this. Looks like a banger ultra portable laptop, at that discount price.

They have a Apple M2 review up now as well, primarily compared to 6800U and 1260P. The 6800U stacks up quite well against the M2, the 1260P fails to impress IMHO.

I can't stress enough how important (and cool!) it is that AMD finally has working eGPU support. I wish I'd waited a little longer before pulling the trigger. Cezanne will have to do.

I could replace both of my systems for a single 6800U rig with an eGPU box with a 6600 XT and probably break even. Must resist.
