My 2700X needs 1.33V for 4.1GHz ..
4.2GHz requires 1.39V for stability and 4.3GHz on all cores is beyond my motherboard or cooler capabilities

Still, happy with my CPU, but I will find better sample soon! (or switch to TR2)

Setup an Ubuntu 18.04 install with VirtualBox 5.2.10.

The Cisco ISO works?! Not sure what to do after it's installed, lol.

I wrote the steps to do with vmware workstation 14 using the wizard.. you don't need ubuntu or other distros. You can install vmware workstation 14 pro trial version on Windows.

I can do that, but am running a separate OS install for this test.

I think TR2 is going to be beastly but I am really excited about next years TR3; best chips in them after EPYC is selected from the wafer?

So I put my 2700x in a new case today, and with all the fans and the better AIO fit I am now at 4.2 ghz 1.3 vcore testing. For 3 hours@100%load so far. 66c temps.

And Virtual Larry talked me into another 2700x, and I just ordered 4266 memory for it.

Soooo what's the story on VirtualLarry's excellent salesmanship?

Also, are you planning to build at least one TR2 box? Or upgrade one TR1 box?

Can someone point me to a good explanation of the value for faster/lower latency memory on Ryzen please. I’m preparing to build.

Well, with Ryzen CPUs and APUs, their internal bus called IF or DF in different places, is clocked synchronously with the DRAM controller, to minimize latency passing data around. So, the faster the external DRAM clock, the faser the "internals" / "uncore" operate. (But not CPU cores, those have their own clock or clocks.)

Likewise, Ryzen runs better with lower-latency DRAM too.

I have something frustrating happening with my setup; Asus X470 Pro board. If I remove the video card to make room to work in the case, it will not boot after replacement. I have to let it sit for a bit of time, not sure the minimum amount though.

Anyone have that happen before with an Asus or other board?

Am going to try hooking up the speaker for beep codes and update the BIOS.

I have ordered another X470 board to help troubleshoot the issue...

Just built a Gigabyte X470 Ultra MB with Ryzen 2600x coupled with the Wraith Prism cpu cooler from my 2700x (it's custom watercooled).

I'm using GSkill Flare-X DDR4 3200 ram (2x8g) with an Asus OC GTX1060 3g gpu. Smooth running rig. The XMP profile 1 runs the ram at 3200 speed.

Ugh, I feel like such a n00b. The power supply is wonky. Plugged in a backup EVGA 600 watt 80 plus and no issues.

It works. Win 10 Pro 1803 and the Workstation Pro 14.

That's re-assuring, and really good to hear. I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with that board model, until you posted that problem resolution.

The memory came early ! So, Larry, just for you, here are the parts before the build :

Not sure if I have time tonight to finish....

Most interesting.. We will see how high it will go on my new 4266 memory !

Installing windows now. So far I only am getting 3600 out of the memory. But I didn't have time to mess around and try a higher speed tonight, want to get it primegridding.

OK, windows installed, primegrid running custom config 4x4. Memory will not go over 3600.

I can't figure out this ASUS OC stuff, so its running stock tonight. need dinner.

I am sorry for a bit noob question - I want to find and finely tune the fastest RAM possible for Ryzen Zen+ 2600 in the ITX case (Cryorig Taku or SilverStone SG13). So my questions are following:

1) What ITX X470 motherboard to choose to get most from the RAM? I am thinking between ASUS ROG STRIX X470-I Gaming and ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming X470-I. Which allows better fine tuning of RAM?

2) What RAM modules to get? I want a dual-channel 16Gb (8*2) kit. I was thinking of G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3200 CL14, or are there better options?

3) How to finely tune the RAM for the maximum performance?

1) No idea.
2) this or the same at 3466 or 3600, the lowest CL you can get.
3) The Ryzen stricly technical thread has advice on subtimings.

Thanks for reply!
1) Just asked if anyone had any experience with overclocking RAM on X470 ITX motherboards. Seems like ATX are much more popular choice.
2) So I can get either 3200 CL14, or 3466 CL16 or 3600 CL16. Which is potentially better?
3) Okay, I will in the Pinnacle Ridge forum branch.

These are 3600 cas 15. I have several kits. Depending on the motherboard, you may be able to run cl14@3466
