Well, I have one on every Ryzen system, 1700x,1800x,4 threadrippers, and soon on my 2700x

Any issues achieving rated speed or using as Boot? Were they on a recommended list or did you buy without a list?

Well are there any issues with NVMe SSDs other then price and the fact that the majority of folks here wouldn't see any difference compared to SATA SSDs?

They are all the boot drive. The only problem I had was linux dual-boot, I had to use a sata drive after having win 10 on the NVME. Rated speed ? I have not even checked, but it boots win 10 in 7 seconds. App launching is immediate. No, I did not check for a list, I didn't even know there was a list.

The speeds on high IO like DC is very noticable over a normal SSD. Make sure you put a heatsink on it if you have high IO, they will overheat and throttle down if you don't. Before my heatsinks, they got to 70c and started to almost not function. Now they stay nicely under 52c. Doing DC 24/7 is a very high IO situation.

Well for something like that, for sure. But what about "normal applications"?

I don't run any to speak of, so I don't know.

Disclaimer: all my Ryzens run on Taichi motherboards, it is possible other motherboards may have issues.

Good to know. Ya, I went looking for a RAM compatibility list, found that and an NVme list as well. That surprised me as I kinda figure a Drive is a Drive. From what I found the worst to happen is being unable to achieve rated speeds, so I suppose it's not too important.

Mostly fixed the boost behavior on my X370 Taichi. The main solution was to run a -0.1V core voltage offset because apparently the board overvolts on Auto and ends up killing boost clock potential. My all core turbo sticks close to 4.1GHz now and single core much closer to 4.3. CB multi score is 1849 and single core is 176 (this could still be better).

Also interesting is that Precision Boost Override is effectively supported on this older board because XFR limits are configurable. I just copied the default PBO values from the_stilt's initial review (1000W, 114A, 168A) and it seems to be working because I've seen up to 148W power consumption. My understanding is that 141W would be the default limit.

Good find. Where?

Local Craigslist. I am leaning towards using until I can get Vega or the next version of Vega, then selling as I have a 4K Freesync I would really like to utilize.

I really wanted to get a RX 580 holdover until prices came down, but they are not worth the money. And a new anything else cost close to or as much as this.

I know what you mean. I would replaced my GTX 970 already if it weren't for the high prices of GPUs now.

My 2700X arrived earlier today. Hooray!

No issues at all on the X370 Taichi so far, although I'm still sifting through the bios and adjusting settings (on 4.40 still). The ram speeds have surprised me though. I was running my B-Die 3200mhz C14 at 3466 C14 on the 1700... Currently at 3600 C14 and still trying to find the limit. (Just wish I could get the Ryzen Timing Checker tool to run. It just closes right away)

As an aside, I plugged in the Prism cooler briefly to check it out. I have to say it looks pretty nice. My friend who bought my 1700 will enjoy it I'm sure.

My 2700x came today also, but I am still waiting one the 470 Taichi to ship ! So I have case, PSU( AX860i) NVME SSD memory (3600 cl15) and aftermarket cooler as well as the stock one (which looks very good.) Also a 1050TI and a 1060 for video (not going to pay those ridiculous 1080TI prices of $1000).

So I am all ready except that dang MB. A week from today ETA

Asus B350 and X370 boards seem to already have an explicit PBO option in the BIOS.

I picked up a 2700x yesterday at the store. Should I use the stock cooler or is a 212 Evo better? What about for VRM cooling?

Stock is a little rough on the bottom finish, but other than that no complaints. It will also give you down draft cooling of VRM vs. a tower. I don't think the 212 is better per se. Would have to compare the thermal secs on a datasheet.

It depends if you have a good sample or a bad one. Mine is bad, it will only run full core load @3,8GHz with ~1.325V. This is with everything set to stock, the Spire will let the cpu run @80C while the fan spins @3000rpm and that makes a lot of noise. Better cpu's will run all core loads at less voltage, so the Spire can keep it's fan in check.

For testing I switched to the BeQuiet Pure Rock Slim, which is only a 120WTDP cooler and a budget one in general and it performs more or less the same as the Spire. It's fan only runs @2000 rpm making it much quieter. A 212 Evo is a much better cooler.

What CPU do you have ?? The 2700x is 4 ghz all core stock !

I tried the 212 on my 1700, and it ran really hot. I will let you know in a week how the stock one does vs the 612-2 that is ready to be used after that.

I have a 2700X.
Cinebench will run ~3900MHz
OCCT will run ~3800MHz
IBT even brings it down to 3,7GHz baseclock.

It needs at least 1,375V to run 4GHz, less will crash have not stablity tested so could end up worse.
4,2GHz needs 1,4475, lower will crash not tried stability.

OK, what motherboard do you have ? and are you using the stock cooler ?

If it won't run at stock speeds, something is wrong.

I have a Mugen 2 that probably needs a mounting bracket to work on AM4 and a Corsair H110i that would need a case swap to mount.

But I am thinking there may not be a need to manually OC this thing, going by the 'Ryzen: Strictly Technical' thread and The Stilt's testing.

Right now I am hung up on a network issue; if the 2700X is on the network, it messes up network shares on the 4790k.

Running a Gigabyte X470 Gaming 7 Wifi and 16GB FlareX 3200MHz C14.

With the Spire I have tried every setting to get it to run at levels as found in the reviews, as in 4GHz all core clocks, but the cpu can not maintain 4GHz. Running Heaven or the FFXV benchmark ends up somewhere between 3925 and 4025MHz. I am currently using the forementioned BeQuiet cooler as I could no longer stand the Spire wining @ 3000rpm.
It isn't thermal throttling as it stays between 72 en 82 degrees C. As far as I know AMD garantuees 3,7GHz all core so it isn't faulty just a terrible example.
